   Basically, the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis proposes that language determines, or at least influences, so many of our most fundamental beliefs about the world.
   
   That example about different perspectives on time is one of the really eye-opening examples.
   
   If you really think about it language is just one symbolic way of representing experience. From there, you can really start to see how relative perception is, and, ultimately, how confined/restricted we are by how our past experiences have shaped our current world view.
