Yeah I suppose even "quasi" intelligible isn't quite accurate.
There might be the occasional word in a given sentence that's somewhat recognizable, but it likely wouldn't result in a totally inexperienced speaker being able to understand the whole sentence.
For fun, I wrote out a couple random sentences in English and used Google Translate to get the Dutch translation... Then I went from English to Afrikaans...
English:
hi my name is carl. i enjoy sports and travelling around the world.
Dutch:
hallo mijn naam is carl. ik geniet van sporten en reizen over de hele wereld.
Afrikaans:
hi my naam is carl. Ek geniet sport en reis oor die wêreld.
Definitely way more similarities between Dutch and Afrikaans than between English and either. -

It's apparently a rivalry with Lanny over some (at least perceived) violation of free speech, and some of us find it just as annoying as anyone else.
But apparently, there is a deep, very important history to it, so there are almost as many proponents as there are detractors.
Also, it's not Bill Krozby doing it (at least, that would be one hell of a plot twist), so blaming it on him is at least a touch innacurate.
I'm not looking to rehash the whole argument... It's been done to death, quite frankly... Just explaining because I recognise your username from times past. -

If that's the case, it should be at least quasi-intelligible to English speakers since Dutch and English both have similar roots (going way back, mind you).
I can't say "owsipbwpvqskfjdnx" looks anything even remotely resembling an actual word, from ANY Proto-Indo-European descended language, let alone a Germanic one. -

Actually I just realized that there are tons of jobs where there's no Ctrl+Z or some other kind of reviewing stage where you can undo any mistakes made.
I.e. like the entire medical field, as well as anything involving operating heavy machinery.
