Kinda. It should be a pretty straightforward CMS since articles don't have the option for commenting on them (although I hadn't even considered if that might be a desirable feature until I started this sentence...).

That might be overkill though. So for now I'm just going to recreate the old Totse text file hosting pattern as best I can and post a working iteration that can be modified if needed and/or desired.

I'm screaming my fear into a megaphone at the top of my lungs.

Nah, for real I'm pretty chill right now.

I'm thinking of maybe recreating the Totse text file archive from that archived dump floating around on the Internet somewhere (I have a copy somewhere), and then hosting it on AWS since I already host all kinds of stuff on there anyway, it wouldn't be much work.

It's now on my TODO board.

I can then link to the forums here from the text file repository. We'll see if we get any fresh blood.

Is this supposed to be something from a news article... Or...?

And also, is it from a periodical with a bulbous, highly flavorful vegetable in the title?

Now this muthafucka (the sandman) can drop fools.

I was full of piss and vinegar mere minutes ago, but now I'm just filled with piss (Simpsons reference for the most part).

    But for real, tired.

Anyway, sprinkle some sleep sand around you about an hour before bed, and you will gain glorious entry into that sweet, sweet release.

I did my daily 4-corner sleep sand sprinkle not too long ago and am now adjourning to the couch (I sleep on a couch, even though I have a bed... it's a quirk, don't fixate too much on it...).

    GOODNIGHT EVER BODY!

On the first date I just tell them: "I'm gonna punish you, because I'm big, and you're small, and I'm right, and you're wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it. You're a liar and a scoundrel, and your father's a liar and a cheat! You're the most corrupt lowlifes in the history of civilization! Am I wrong? I'm never wrong. In this classroom, in this school, I... am... GOD!!!!"

That usually prevents any further dissension.

All I can say is that if it ain't PST, it's of no use to me.

What's the best thing about twenty nine year olds?

Also, for that matter, how many here even care? I mean, maybe I'm just stuck living in the past, but I miss the glory days of Totse at it's prime, and even Zoklet for that matter (albeit to a lesser extent).

There was a time when having topical subforums was totally necessary, because SG alone would get a front page full of new threads every few minutes or so.

Maybe other people don't care about having such a degree of diversity? (And I don't mean "diversity" in the cliche political sense, but rather in the sense of sheer diversity of minds).

Because this town gets kinda calm at certain times of day / days of the week.

I have a solution to propose, though...

We need a DH sequel. And I volunteer my time to contribute to this particular endeavor ON THE CONDITION THAT others are not only on board, but some might even help in this regard.

I've been sitting here kinda just contemplating what it might take to accomplish this goal, and have arrived at some condensed nuggets of information that kinda summarize the general issues at play here...

    1) Totse absolutely thrived during certain periods, and so it offers us an example we can emulate.
1A) As a result of the relative obscurity of the forum, combined with the fact that it has been shut down for years as of today, due to the natural aging process, many of the original posters have simply lost interest / moved on / died / gone to jail / started cults on a Caribbean island (lol not actually, but almost believable for Totse alumni).
1BI) We need to attract a younger cohort.
1BII) We also might need to consider hosting text files (the logistics can be worked out in this thread or elsewhere, or completely ignored, but it ultimately was how I personally found Totse, and a few people I've met in real life who have mentioned Totse knew about the text files (just not about the forums)).

    2) ...

Ah, forget about this whole numbering scheme. I'm losing track of the nested back and forth.

But yeah, who else is with me?

Let's start by approaching the initial things mentioned above.

Should we start compiling an information resource much like Totse was? Note that it does not necessarily need to be hosted on the same servers, or on the same domain even, etc, etc... The logistics can be handled in many different ways.

    Any other suggestions?

If you're wise, you'll stop aging this second.

You'll reverse your own aging process too, if you're the sage of all sages.

The dude who's literally only asking how old people here are?

    Or am I missing something?

I don't get the paranoia most of you exhibit here.

I literally posted a scan of my drivers license and a map to where I live.

I dunno, for many here, the paranoia seems like absolute overkill.

In some cases it makes some sense, and in others even moreso.

Phantasmagoria was part of my motivation to dox myself when I did, though. The dude posts pics of his face and everything, and yet posts some of the most staunchly anti-semitic and pro-pedophilia stuff. It really is kind of impressive to me.

    But maybe misguided.

But you gotta admit, the dude with the most controversial cluster of opinions is one of the most brazen in posting his own P.I., and that's something.

Now, when it comes to animals, as well as future persons (i.e. in the consideration of future generations), and even hypothetical entities (like aliens, clones, 4th dimensional travelers, etc), things get a lot trickier.

Hence why the meat thread is such a happening place.

I have my own moral guidebook. I have been told by many people that i cant expect them to be like me. Frankly they are right. I do not apply my morals to what others do. However i have a moral code that fits me and allows me to sleep

Well, I am narcissistic enough to believe that my personal moral code probably lines up pretty damn close to any objectively desirable moral code, but I'll be the first to admit there's tons of room for bias to creep in.

My basic moral guide is a slight variation on "Do unto others" (frequently associated with Christianity, but by no means exclusive to it): "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (as well as your most dearly loved one)."

I personally add that second bit because we often hold ourselves to different standards than other people, and it helps avoid some of the ego-driven bias that we all exhibit when making moral decisions.

There's essentially no fundamental physical foundation for ethics/morality/etc, which often leads to the (seemingly inevitable) conclusion that moral relativism is the case, and then this, in turn, can lead some to justify all kinds of socially-undesirable acts, or, conversely, react with something of a sense of fear about the intangibility of it all.

The thing is, though, I would argue that LITERALLY EVERY HUMAN BEING has an ethical code, even serial killers and other assorted psychopaths. For those with genuine, bonafide genetic/neurological damage that ravages that part of the brain responsible for experiencing empathy, morality can be a more challenging venture. Often they'll act in some way that's consistent with what one might call "instrumental morality". What ultimately results in maximizing the individual's ego-centric needs is good, and what might hinder them is bad. Although, that being said, there are plenty of people with that exact neurological impairment who are somehow able to abstain from socially-undesirable / antisocial actions.

So I dunno... I guess maybe that's just an example of instrumental morality, because they fear the repercussions of their actions might kinda hinder them. It's not particularly cut and dry though.

OP, regarding your scenario, it sounds like some people really are just being dicks for one reason or another. I mean, as I mentioned above, everyone has some kind of moral compass, and 9 times out of 10, there will be major similarities among different people, and one can point to evolution as a decent explanation of that. And, at least from the version of events that you present, I would guess that 9 out of 10 people would consider you to be a victim of other people being dicks for whatever reason.

However, admittedly, that assumes there aren't some major discrepancies between the events as you describe them and how they actually happened. I feel the benefit of the doubt is warranted, though.
