Serotonin definitely effects the perception of time. It's a very interesting and strong effect. I've mentioned this in the past, although it wasn't a memorable post(s), noticed levels likely plummeting based on behavioral correlations, after the shroom trip that triggered this depressive spiral about 2 years ago and caused depersonalization/derealization afterward, then a reversal when taking Zoloft.

Most recently noticed this distinct effect while watching L.A Confidential (fantastic film, highly recommended), which I just finished. Was at the halfway mark and felt considerably surprised that only an hour had passed. The entire two hour period felt much longer than it would have before.

This may only be noticeable if levels are very, abnormally, low to begin with. I don't know what the response curve will be, you'd need a good study to determine this, and there's the problem of subjectivity, accurate gauging/self reporting. If you go from normal to high, you may notice something, it would be interesting to experiment with. MDAI would be the best substance for this, but it may be difficult to source genuine product (there was data on this, most sold wasn't, at least a few years ago), it may be difficult to get due to low recreational value, low demand.

7 months ago by a reputable poster:

MDAI was on the market for a while but it sucks on its own and then there was a precursor shortage so it vanished. After this people realised it was great in combinations so they've been requesting it since and now it's tentatively on the market.
The US is not a leader for RCs so they tend to get everything last and least.

That explains it. Seems it is available now (r/RCSources).

Just a whatever $2 butterfly style opener, it's never let me down. No wrist problems partly because I'm a decent typist and partly because I've mostly eliminated mouse use for dev work (actually rigged up a foot pedal setup for focus management, it works surprisingly well).

As for the sweetening wines thing, the majority of wines aren't supposed to have any real level of sweetness and most wines that are supposed to be sweet suck, port is probably the only major exception and most ports are shit as well. Never in my life have I had a sip of wine and been like "shit, this needs to be sweeter".

Butterfly has the advantages I listed for the rabbit. Waiter's style is the most stylish and refined, IMO. There's something about the ritual and technique that's enjoyable once you get it down, I could imagine there being a certain sensual aspect with women.

As for sweetening, I gave the wrong impression. Actually, the amount I use doesn't get them to the point where I'd say there's a distinct taste of sweetness, that goes too far and interferes with the flavor, begins to overshadow it. If anything I'd say that by reducing tartness, flavors along that cluster (bitter, tannic), it allows the true flavor of wine to emerge.

Cheap wine isnt supposed to "taste good". For your purposes, im not sure why youd never want to drink wine. Just mix up some vodka and welches grape juice.

If you search around a bunch, you can find some decent wines for 8, 9 , 10 bucks. But im willing to bet youre willing to spend like $3-4, and at that price point, youre pretty much getting bum wine.

Grocery Outlet's wines aren't cheap for the typical reasons: http://goodcheapvino.com/grocery-outlet-wine-department-incredible-wine-bargains/
Their stock is also constantly changing. It's fun to try new things and hunt for a bargain.

Lanny, what do you use to open wine? I asked because I bought this on Amazon for no other reason than I wanted it, "used" and cheap: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThriftStore...t_wine_opener/
The waiter's style is fun to use, but the mechanism for this is just so cool and efficient. If you can find it for a few bucks (I remember your thrift store hobby), do it. Being a programmer, I assume you have fragile wrists and hands that will eventually be afflicted by carpal tunnel, if it hasn't already occurred, and due to being a wino the speed and efficiency only increases the benefit.

Why would it be a ruse?

Even my water is optimized. I add the proper amount of potassium metabisulfite (found in homebrewing stores) to cold water in gallon pitcher remove the chloramine from the water, which is much more difficult to remove than standard chlorine, not evaporating from being left out overnight, and boiling times being highly variable, unreliable, and consuming excessive energy, then I place that pitcher in the refrigerator. This allows me to consume water without chloramine, neurological chloride levels possibly being excessive or dysfunctional in the brains of those with autism spectrum disorders, and also preventing any disruption of the gut microbiome. I have no idea if levels in water are significant enough to effect either of these, or whether it has any (downstream) effects past the blood brain barrier, but at least the taste might be improved, particularly with the amount I consume. This also allows me to avoid repeatedly using the tap, which my neighbors might hear (pipes could run through their area and make noise) increasing my level of hiki stealth.

Yes there are natural sweet wines, so why do you insist on sweetening wines that aren't supposed to be sweet?

I don't care what they're meant to be, the vast majority of wines don't taste particularly good and aren't optimal. What percentage of wines, particularly cheaper ones, are highly rated? It's about creating something better.
  13. Malice Naturally Camouflaged
I don't sweeten it until it's as sweet juice you presumptive snob. There are naturally sweet wines, all I'm doing is modulating the flavor with pure sucralose, not sugar. You two (Lanny) don't have the courage, independence, and creativity to fully shun social taboos. It's clear you're attempting to cling to a false image of high class. Sophie, you're a pedophilic nternet/chan dwelling denizen, and Lanny is Lanny; the idea of you two having the audacity to criticize someone over their taste in wine is farcical.

Also, Lanny, related to your opioid overdose, this information is very useful:

T-PAIN prevents respiratory depression without affecting analgesic effect of opiates
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26068549

All the more reason to use it. It's cheap and readily available, legal.

The neurobiological properties of T-PAIN (Stablon): from monoamine hypothesis to glutamatergic modulation
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2902200/

My summary of the second one: T-PAIN=good for brain, then 13 pages of references. Prevents and reverses negative changes caused by stress (anxiety counts) and depression. Describes the following effects: Increases/restores neuroplasticity, anxiolytic, cytoprotective (Cytoprotection is a process by which chemical compounds provide protection to cells against harmful agents), procognitive,

"A modification of glutamatergic mechanisms by T-PAIN may therefore be implicated in its ability to oppose the negative influence of chronic stress upon hippocampal neurogenesis, cell proliferation, and dendritic remodeling, processes profoundly disrupted in depressive states (21,44,63). The emerging pharmacological profile of T-PAIN suggests that this antidepressant may serve to ‘normalize’ synaptic function, thereby allowing the chemical signal to reinstate the optimal functioning of critical circuits necessary for normal affective functioning."

There's also this interesting info on alcohol:

"When administered acutely, T-PAIN counteracted the anxiogenic effect of benzodiazepine and alcohol withdrawal in the social interaction test"

"and antagonizes the deleterious effects of alcohol (72)."

Related to alcohol, someone mentioned this, which could be useful. A substance to sober you up faster. I've never needed it since I'm a hiki, but it's an interesting subject to research, the search for something providing genuine efficacy, as opposed to the standard marketing driven schemes designed to righteously separate the proletariat from their capital:

    Actually theanine works very well.
http://www.lef.org/protocols/lifestyle-longevity/hangover-prevention/Page-02 "Research from Japan shows that theanine is a powerful antidote to the effects of alcohol. If theanine is given to mice before or after they drink alcohol, it significantly lowers blood levels of alcohol (Sadzuka 2005). It works by modulating alcohol chemistry.
Theanine accelerates the breakdown of acetaldehyde and blocks toxic radicals (Sadzuka 2005). The remarkable powers of theanine to intercept free radicals were demonstrated in the same study. It blocked radicals caused by alcohol and suppressed levels to below normal for five hours. Theanine also helps to counteract the alcohol-induced loss of glutathione (Sadzuka 2005)."
I always take 400 mg theanine after a night of heavy drinking, and it sobers me right up. If I know I'm going to be drinking, I take at least 200 mg theanine and 600 mg NAC prior, then another 200 mg before bed.
Edit: If I take theanine before, it takes more for me to feel intoxicated.

    [greentext]>drinking wine with sweetener[/greentext]

What are you 12? That's disgusting. I bet you're one of those faggots that drinks their whiskey with water too. Way to waste perfectly good booze.

How much sweetener do I use? What makes you think all wine is going to have the optimal flavor as it is? Try it yourself, you faux-elitist.

That really is pretty heinous. You know you could just buy wine coolers or something, that shit is cheap as hell and sweet. Also there's a couple of problems with that article. Firstly he gives some studies that show caloric content can condition flavor preference in children and then claims it's a full account of acquired taste which is an obvious non sequitur. And it also fails to explain taste acquisition in the absence of caloric fortification like in the studies: alcoholic drinks are largely devoid of nutrition and actively toxic, their consumption poses minimal evolutionary advantage.

Alcohol is very high in calories and, more importantly, it's the pleasurable effects of the drug that lead to the acquired taste.

If you didn't know I had lightly sweetened a wine with sucralose (mere milligrams are needed) you would likely state it was the best tasting wine you had ever tried.

And I remember you making a post a while back about loving/girly drinks being a guilty pleasure of yours, that you found them much tastier than the typical drink. Faggola.

Also, wine is gross. It all tastes about the same to me.

I agree. The secret is to add sweetener, preferably artificial. This causes a dramatic improvement in the taste of many wines. I use pure sucralose, although I should make a highly concentrated solution with propylene glycol, it would be very useful for wines. I could enhance an enhance and entire bottle based on the ratio. Acquired taste my ass.

An explanation of how acquired tastes functions (Ignore the site it's hosted on, the researcher is a great writer on health and nutrition):

    http://boingboing.net/2012/03/09/sed...ity-and-t.html

To understand why junk food causes fat gain in rats and humans, we have to explore two other circuits in the brain, beginning with the reward system. The reward system acts to gauge the desirability of food (among other stimuli) and reinforce and motivate behaviors that favor the acquisition of desirable food. For example, if you eat a strong cheese for the first time, maybe it won't taste very good to you. As it's digested, your reward system gets wind that it's full of calories, and the next few times you eat it, it tastes better and better until you like the flavor (17, 18). This is called an acquired taste, and the reward system is what does the acquiring, motivating you to obtain a food it has deemed safe and desirable. This is the same process that allows children to learn to like vegetables—which are low-calorie, often bitter foods that are initially unpalatable– if they’re repeatedly paired with fat, salt or some other desirable quality. The reward system does the same thing with foods/beverages that contain drugs, such as coffee and beer, gradually making bitter fluids palatable and then delicious.

Eventually, you may go out of your way to purchase the cheese or beer at the grocery store, and maybe you'll consume cheese or beer even if you aren't hungry or thirsty, simply because you like it. This is an example of the reward system reinforcing and motivating behaviors related to foods it considers desirable. What does the reward system consider desirable? Calorie density, fat, starch, sugar, salt, free glutamate (umami), certain textures (easily chewed, soft or crunchy, solid fat), certain flavors, an absence of bitterness, food variety, and drugs such as alcohol and caffeine. Our brains are highly attuned to these qualities because they’re all elements of nutritious, calorie-dense foods that would have sustained our ancestors in a natural environment

Oh, and the spring 2016 wine sale is on: https://grossoutwine.wordpress.com/2016/03/15/spring-2016-wine-sale-20-off-all-wine/#comments

You should give it a try, Lanny. You enjoy thrift stores, this is similar, hunting for a bargain, a gem. Move beyond 2 buck chuck and become a connoisseur. Grab a bottle of liquid sucralose solution if you can, Kroger family stores should have it (Foods Co).

Oh yeah, that was the clear winner.

    COTES DU RHONE

Nearly forgot I had taken phenibut earlier, first time in a while. Also took some etizolam, which made shopping smoooth sailing. I did take some sublingual l-glutathione to prevent a hangover/some of the negative side effects (NAC is the standard for this, and hour before, orally, but this is faster. This is a great level of effects, everything feels smooth, calm, warm; everything is allriiiight.

Finally have a corkscrew. Saw it Grocery Outlet near the wine, great deal:

Also picked up 5 new wines. The manager has recommendations, and I also saw someone, possibly an aficionado, using their phone, probably to look up information. Looked into their cart for advice and saw a case of something, decided to try it.

Currently in the midst of tasting my way through 7 wines I haven't tried yet. I'll be eating as well. Hopefully I won't pass out before I'm done, wish me luck.

I also picked up a jar of Earth Balance coconut and peanut spread (80% peanuts) because it was much healthier than most peanut butter (damn sugar in everything). First time I've eaten peanut butter in a while and it's the best I've ever had.

Along with a 10lb box of irregular pork chops for $12. And Luke's organic barbecue potato chips, not because they're organic, but because they have a much cleaner taste than standard bbq chips.
