i know i said that in the other thread too but it actually kinda fucks me up. like we're pretty close to eradication at this point. he never got to see the world finally freed of the plague he devoted his later life to fighting. and the worst part is he wasn't a particularly charismatic guy, so it's not like there's gonna be a rallying cry of "we owe it to jimmy carter to see this through" -
