Either works, as long as you can spin it properly. If you want show your bravery you should become a beacon of hope to the women of the world. Ruling from the shadows would be playing into too many negative tropes about women - devious women pulling the strings from behind the curtains in palace intrigues. Alternatively you could take those tropes and own them, proclaim them a laudable display of true feminine power, and cast becoming a beacon as acquiescing to a fundamentally patriarchal conception of how power is meant to be wielded. π€
In a world dominated by patriarchy, the former is probably the easier approach. -

If you say you hate wolves, let's say, and a wild and starving one were to wander onto your neighbor's petting zoo... would you treat it as though it were simply another one of the animals people were meant to pet? Talking about either without the other is pointless! The relationship between race and nationalism is like the relationship between breathing and air. Having strong opinions on the fundamental worth of various gasses is completely pointless if you actively choose not to distinguish between them when it comes to breathing. Saying someone is French because they've got a French passport is like saying "any gas is breathable so long as you can inhale it". 100% helium is not the same as breathable air, and calling both "breathable" because your lungs can be filled with either is self destructive. Your nation is what sustains you, like the air around you. If you're willing to keep calling it air as it's gradually replaced with an inert gas, you're going die out.

Maybe draw the line at having 3/4ths or 7/8ths French ancestry - one side of your family tree, multiple generations back, wasn't French, but that doesn't necessarily mean you aren't. Who knows? That's for the racists (which, to reiterate, is something that I am not) to decide. -
