like jimmy carter i think exterminating inferior and troublesome parasites is based so i'm sad he died before the last guinea worm
i know i said that in the other thread too but it actually kinda fucks me up. like we're pretty close to eradication at this point. he never got to see the world finally freed of the plague he devoted his later life to fighting. and the worst part is he wasn't a particularly charismatic guy, so it's not like there's gonna be a rallying cry of "we owe it to jimmy carter to see this through"

no actually the worst part is that, with the shape of our society being what it is in the modern age, some bleeding heart freak of a scientist is probably going to crawl out of the woodwork and mount a defense of the guinea worm, and with the death of jimmy carter there's nobody who really truly cares, so they'll probably succeed in preventing us from fully eradicating it
