No, he's right. Ante can be a verb when you use it in "ante up". Like lawyer is a noun but you can still say someone has "lawyered up" as opposed to "lawyer upped". "Ante upped" does sounds bretty retarded. -

Have you read about the "flow" state? Allegedly people tend to be happiest when they're in it or happier the larger the percentage of their time they spend in it, but I'm particularly skeptical of anything pop-sciency as it tends to be wildly inaccurate or inaccurately portrayed. This is very plausible, though.
I don't see why you're skeptical that people feel good when they're doing well.Still, this is a recurrent theme I've seen. Is a constant state of distraction really something that should be strived for, truly satisfying and fulfilling, or does it just make an empty existence more bearable and keep away the thoughts of the complete lack of fundamental meaning that pervades conscious existence? A career, wife, children. It's a type of hell to me, but I really can't blame anyone for choosing it and would even consider it the best choice for some, although this wasn't always the case. That doesn't mean I consider it good, just an understandable escape from the pain of being alone and alive.
"Distraction" is just a dumb slur here. You've been trying to "distract" yourself from your problems for like years now with drugs. When your problems are psychological (and I imagine most people's are) then "fixing the problem" and distracting yourself from the problem in a non-harmful way are the same thing. Like if a person feels happy every day that they golf, and they golf every day, how is a person who experiences none of the symptoms of depression still depressed but just distracted as opposed to actually cured of depression? -

2015-09-01 at 3:51 AM UTC in str8 up gang$taI used to work/go to school with this russian-israeli former IDF soldier (I think he was a tank operator) and he was a nice guy, smart and a wizard with a soldering iron, but every now and then I got the impression he had been involved in organized crime of some sort. You pick up the chronology of people's lives in bits and pieces but he talked about being a kid now and then, about his time in the military, but he was like mid 30s when I knew him and he served when he was 18 and I never heard anything about what he did between getting out of the military and coming to the US. There were other little thing that just seemed off now and then. Mind you it could just be paranoia but I've always been kinda curious. Never asked though since with or without a criminal history I wouldn't want to be on his bad side.
