Mockingbird and the Propaganda Assets Inventory have their roots in another time, where news-selling institutions were profitable and didn't need government assistance, but they were 'patriotic' in that intelligence agencies were able to get hooks into enough people to convince the whole that it was 'un-American' to deviate from the state narrative. Today that 'direct' reach is lessened, but due to print newspapers being obsolete and news companies being unable to compete with the internet, a similar level of control is maintained financially through government grants and kickbacks.
That's an interesting dynamic that's well illustrated in the book 'Confessions of an Economic Hitman' which I just finished - the author, one of the first generation was guided by the NSA and explicitly told he was being contracted to destroy economies to indebt them to the US. As time goes on, idealogues and profiteers take his place; people who genuinely believe that they're doing good work or literally don't care as long as they get paid, doing the work of the state/treasury department without ever knowing that their work is being orchestrated as a larger political warfare campaign.
In terms of the comparison between journalists, 'citizen-journalists' and intelligence operatives, it's probably dishonest to lump them all together as they collect different types of information and, more importantly, use it for different ends. I feel that the internet and social media (literally the one thing I can praise it for) have significantly improved journalism on the whole because 'citizen-journalists', or just people with cameras in their pockets, have been slowly eroding the credibility of centralised, government-sponsored news. It's becoming harder and harder to shield yourself from reality, and the hysterical accusations of 'conspiracy theory' and 'fake news' against anyone who doesn't play the game is testament to thatThe following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

We merry band of travelers consuming spirits and fine fruits, made way to the oceanside, the tides unusually high amidst a nearby hurricane.
Upon a likely excessive amount of responsible ale consumption, we came in agreement and sought the company of the stirring sea and the pounding waves.
Plunging into the dark abyss we became shadow-like ragdolls being tossed about, not much unlike a jellyfish; the waves towering above us like Death himself.
Alas, a felt the peculiar sting upon my thigh of what resembled several babby mosquitos, and looked down to catch but the briefest glimpse of a human sized jellyfish.
In my intoxicated state I laughed heartily and carried on thrashing about in the whirling waters until eventually retiring back upon dry land.
Upon inspection of my upper leggal region I discovered an abnormally massive rash of red blotches and pus-like fluids embedded within it.
After a brief conference we concluded it twas but nothing of concern and ventured home.
Got my leg amputated a week later, good fuckin friends I got huh. -

Sanctuary was actually not supposed to be reopened at all. Not this early anyway. I cleaned it up and reopened it though to give another community a place to stay since their forum was going tits up. I also dearly missed the old rules and the totse (read: ACTUAL totse) way of doing things. Right now, there is literally no site on the internet that delivers that experience besides mine. You could say I got weak and regressed. I thought enough time had passed to where you guys would had hopefully long forgotten all about it and that it was okay to open it for business again without a domain change. I guess that was probably kinda stupid to think.
So here we are. And right now, I don't actually know at all what to say. I'm probably gonna have to change the domain now just to keep you guys off, because I know that asking you all politely to stay off is gonna do precisely dick. I will ask you all this one thing though. Why the hell would you even want to go back to my forum? You guys have NiS and it looks like you're all happy here. So there's pretty much zero reason to come to my forum. I don't have the original posts and threads up anymore. I saved them a long time ago and cleaned it all out. So that's gone. Why come back then? To troll me? Who the hell cares?
When I saw the thread that sanc was open again my first thought was "good for arnox". I wasn't planning on posting on it but I was hoping we could have at least an amicable relation on account of having shared roots in totse. We managed to get along with DFG and /r/totse / totseans but apparently you just had to come and try and start some drama.
