This is actually a topic that I normally find myself absolutely engrossed in, but I'm kinda high/drunk, so I can't quite perform to the best of my abilities.

I am forced to recuse myself (for now at least).

But yeah, the measure of absoluteness for free speech is always going to be a grey area. If push comes to shove, though, I'll take the side of free speech over whatever "toxic" speech someone is trying to ban.

If we can't openly engage in healthy political discourse, we are ABSOLUTELY FUCKED.

    Like, 1984 fucked.

Damnit... He's gone now. Literally, INTENTIONALLY, back to jail.

He's gonna breach deliberately because he's working for the "prison postal service" now.

    Like, dude...

I'm more disappointing in this shit than the drug use, or even the auto theft shit.

I known this nigga since we was like 7 and playing on monkey bars and shit. Now he's working for the wrong crowd, rectum full of some dumb shit, hopskipping right back into the big house.

    Like, FUCK.

And now I'm day drinking because:
    1. I'm high on meth, which I rarely do anymore (so it's a lot more involving than it is for habitual users).
    2. I'm worried about him because he's basically family.

    Like, damn.

My biological siblings might be boring by comparison, but at least they don't put me through this shit.

Like, I felt like top fucking gangster rolling around with him. People talk about the "car you can hear from a mile away" myth... his was the real deal.

But yeah, his car was like a ~2004 Honda Civic (and this was about 2015/2016).

I even remember this one older Asian gentleman approaching us in an underground parking lot (after my friend's sound system started setting off car alarms), complimenting him on the sound, but saying "now you just need to put it into a better car."

I'll definitely PM you before I upload anything. Both to inform you so that you don't miss it, as well as to give you a heads up and a chance to let me know if there might be anything you specifically don't want reposted to the Internet.

In fact, one of the big rate limiting steps in my uploading my personal archives from Totse is simply the fact that I respect privacy and wrestle with some ethical implications of reuploading information once forgotten by the Internet.

I remember that name for sure.

I didn't know he was dead.

In his honor, I dug up some wholesome posts I could find in my archive...

Yeah, for whatever reason they've changed this shit around recently.

This particular thing got me too at first.

There should be a notification that pops up on your phone right when you plug it in, listing a bunch of options for how you want the connection to be treated (i.e. is it strictly for charging? is it for tethering? etc). One of the options should say something like "File Transfer."

If you select that mode, then the computer should recognize it as "external storage", and you can access what's on it.

"If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics."

    -- Richard Feynman.

"Quantum mechanics is very impressive. But an inner voice tells me that it is not yet the real thing."

    -- Albert Einstein.

Two of the world's most renowned historical figures in physics, both having contributed towards major paradigm shifts (Feynman towards QM, and Einstein towards relativity theory), were put off by how unintuitive QM was (and still is).

We have no natural cognitive scaffolding to make sense of things like wave-particle duality, for example. I mean, for thousands of years of human history, things were either one thing or another, never two things simultaneously.

And now we've got string theory and whatnot.

I can only imagine what new theories will follow.

Or maybe humans in general are just all a bunch of P branes, completely unequipped to wrap our primitive Homo sapiens minds around such complex phenomena.

I know that feel... Sort of.

I often jokingly refer to myself as a "radical centrist". When it comes to the things that most people get all heated up over (all things politics, basically), I generally either approach it with levity and humor, or from a "sure let's debate this, i'll take whatever side is less represented here" perspective, or even by just straight up staying out of it altogether.

Luckily, most people don't make a huge case out of it for me. I have been called things like SJW, cuck, or Zionist shill, by folks on the right side of the spectrum, and have been called a few things by folks on the left side of the spectrum (not as much around here, though, because NiS seems to have a vocal majority on the right side of the spectrum).

But a certain kind of freedom comes from being completely unrestricted by political stance.

You're allowed to not be zealously opiniated about every single issue. In fact, I'd go so far as to argue that it can be considered a virtue.

Yeah, the so-called "welfare" system is pretty bunk, even for a country known the world over for it's progressiveness.

And don't get me started on the whole catch-22 situation of becoming less employable as a function of time spent being unemployed.

Interviewer: "Are you aware that the 'recruiter' you were chatting with online was really a 14 year old girl?"

    Applicant: "Woah, wait... What?"

Interviewer: *looks at printed chat transcript* "You said you wanted to streamline her operations."

    Applicant: "Well, yeah, but..."

Interviewer: "And you mentioned that you are really great at overcoming barriers and achieving precisely what you want?"

Applicant: "Yes, I mean, those are true statements about me if taken under the right context..."

Interviewer: "You ended the conversation by saying that you looked forward to showing her exactly what you're made of."

    Applicant: *silent*

Ok, there can be really seemingly worthless studies, such as those saying things that are generally considered to be straight up common sense (although, I personally would argue that they have value in that they actually help determine what are urban myths and old wives' tales).

But studies like this have absolutely fascinating potential implications...

First off, at a more philosophical level, the very fact that we can talk in real terms about how empathy can vary not only between people (huge implications there alone), but even within the same people over time based on such trivial things as whether or not they're taking an over the counter anti-inflammatory!

    That's huge!

I mean, it's like that study that found that the sentences handed out by judges were actually dramatically affected by whether they had had their lunch breaks yet*.

    * Note: To be fair, the hungry judges study has apparently been criticized, not so much for straight up fabricating data or anything, but for possibly neglecting alternate variables, or from other issues of statistical validity - but, that's how science works, there's always going to be some back-and-forth.

Also, my genitals are sore from excessive attention.

Imagine being yourself as a kid and finding out that shit like this is what you have to look forward to?
