Originally posted by Rizzo in a box I probably enjoy life more than most people, I'm a cold blooded nihilist but also a completely serious gnostic Christian that loves life and is in a eternity long battle for the souls of man. it's not like I sit around all day thinking about how everything sucks, most of my time is spent laughing my ass off.
So like a realistic optimist, basically?
Or optimistic realist... If one wants to start splitting hairs.
Again, we share a pretty similar worldview, I think. -

Yeah, it might be one of those things.
Don't give up. Try different ASMR YouTube channels. Experiment with different vocal tones, themes, gender of speaker even, etc. You might just find your ASMR niche. -

Originally posted by Rizzo in a box im not into ASMR but I've gotten those "tingles" from a very early age, I've always used it to guide myself. Would agree there's some oxytocin shit going on there. As I grew older I was able to take those feelings that were fairly localized and get dat full body tingle. not even a person, just a euphoric feeling. gonna go listen to some songs that I know will trigger that shit, bask in the glory of life.
And here I was assuming you just sit around and stew in shitty neurotransmitters, or deficiencies of the good ones.
Biochemical pleasure is a universal pleasure though.
The one that that unites us all, from nihilist to 'God'-fearing, bible-thumping zealot, and everything in between. -

Ah, the march of progress - how it puts it all in perspective. -

Originally posted by Rizzo in a box you know, a discussion about violence would be pretty instructive, I think. It is the only form of discussion that is universally reviled, even by the most ardent free speech activists. there's a reason for this: talking about violence will be met with the violence of the state, the only "legitimate" violence. of course when you see places like France or the US, whose republics have a history of revolution, clamp down on political violence and making some statement…you know this is nothing but power.
I think this is a pretty good article on this subject https://palladiummag.com/2018/11/16/mass-political-violence-wont-happen-in-america/
I find myself agreeing with extreme leftist weirdos for the worst reasons. When they say "speech is violence", I agree. they think that means speech should be regulated, I think violence should be deregulated. people like andrew breitbart have cute sayings like "politics is downstream from culture". these are the sort of bullshit things political pundits say to hide the raw facts of the matter: culture is down stream from violence. Everything is down stream from violence. Yeah, your streets might be safer, but now we have nukes. Violence only escalates, and it is the only code of truth. You can lie about money, prestige, science, but you can't lie when your head has been cut off.
That's why you can't incite violence. Violence is the sole purview of the government. Any type of violence, from school shootings to football hooligans upset this very fundamental understanding. Unfortunately for us, the violence of the people just doesn't hold a candle to drone strikes and swat teams.
so personally, I am in theory pro-incitement to violence but fuck you you're not going to catch me, I've got twelve jedi lawyers
I hate to quote a popular Hollywood movie, but the quote does summarize my position on a lot of this:"People should not be afraid of their Governments; Governments should be afraid of their people."
From V for Vendetta, I believe.
Sure, it's a big cliche Hollywood movie, but the words are succinct and apt. -

Yeah, the whole over-the-top jedi Rabbi gambit is a bit weird.
And most ASMR videos are AT LEAST 20-30 minutes long, if not an hour or more.
Originally posted by ohfralala I’ve listened to a good variety and it just doesn’t happen, probably because I want it to happen so badly. Tingles before sleep just sound nice but oh well.
There may, unfortunately, be a genetic component that just predisposes some to experience the 'tingles', while others don't for some reason.
I remember the 'tingles' being a thing WELL before I heard of ASMR...
I think it has to do with oxytocin release in the brain.
Oxytocin is the trust neurotransmitter.
I remember getting the same kind of feeling whenever someone was showing me how to do something in a hands-on way.
Basically, being tutored, for example, gave me the same kind of tingles.
Maybe some of this will help you understand it better, which might lead to you finding more effective ASMR experiences. -

Originally posted by ohfralala ASMR does not work for me but I want the stupid tingles. I want em.
Aww, really?
Maybe you just haven't found the right ASMR artist...
Not all voices or personalities work for everyone.
Also, the way you listen to it (headphones vs speakers), or the mood you're in when you listen, time of day, topic/theme of ASMR recording, etc, can all impact it. -
2018-12-17 at 2:35 AM UTC in Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR)ASMR is pretty cool actually.
I use it when I need to fall asleep sober.
It's been a while, but I will be getting back into it for my NY resolution (to quit drinking). -
