Giphy cut my video off at 15 seconds...

I didn't know it would do that.

    One sec.

So I decided to try it out real real quick to just take it for a spin.

It's pretty straightforward to use, and has all kinds of features for standard cutting and moving clips around, as well as transitions of various kinds, and a bunch of other neat stuff I haven't checked out yet.

    EXAMPLE IN NEXT POST...

I don't have much frequent need for video editing at the moment, but I've been looking into a few different Windows video editors for future use.

I generally seek out open source first and foremost, then proprietary freeware next, and only look at paid for software as a last resort (they're usually pretty expensive... obviously piracy is always option, but... I try to avoid it these days personally).

Two that kept coming up as highly recommended were:
    1. DaVinci Resolve (proprietary but free to use the essential features needed).
    2. OpenShot (fully open source and free to use).

I'm leaning towards OpenShot. I downloaded and installed it but, like I said, I haven't had much need for it quite yet.

To be honest, tho, most of my curiosity is piqued by the ambiguity.

Also, why the big secret if it's legal?

Damn, I spelled it "OK" instead of "OKAY."

    Never mind.

    Nothing epic here at all.

Also, I really don't know the full extent of her e-stalking him around here (much of it was probably before I started posting here regularly).

Maybe I'm wasting my time even petting the drama llamas, let alone diving right into the llama pit.

    I'll see myself out.

Although a part of me is kinda put off by the "raped me several times" bit.

I know, I know, these domestic situations are complex and blah, blah, blah, but...

Damn, GTFO of there after the first time maybe?

Okay everyone, I hate to be a buzzkill and totally go against the grain here, but, I have to admit, the following description, while still allegations and not verified fact in front of the law, all the same, sounds pretty specifically detailed:

Originally posted by chzbrgr And yeah, you've raped me several times. When I lived with you, you started trying having sex with me and I told you I didn't want to. Then you preceded to get on top of me and try to force yourself inside me. I kicked you off of my body, and off the bed. You just crawled right back on top, forced yourself inside me and stroked yourself inside my pussy till you came.

Then, and this happened more than once, you asked for sex and I said no because I had work and school the next day and was tired and needed to go to sleep. You continued to press your penis against my lips, trying to force them open enough to shove it in. I continually told you no, to stop, that I didn't want to and wasn't going to. You continued to push me and I became very upset and started screaming and crying. You continued to push me, forced my mouth open and put your penis inside it. It wasn't even hard. And I bit it because I didn't want it in my mouth. You slapped me in the face because I bit it and told me to do it right. I continued to bite it because I was so upset and was in absolutely no mood to have sex or suck your penis. I was being emotionally abused and raped for your own enjoyment. And then I can't count how many times you've inserted yourself, fucked me and came inside me while I was sleeping, unconscious and unconsenting. Especially after I've told you that I don't like that and I don't want you to do it.

At the very least, if anyone really is prank calling her or anything like that, and not just joking about it to get a rise, it may a bit unnecessarily cruel.

Unless there's some important contextual factors I'm missing...?

Because that description right there, IMO, at least earns her the benefit of the doubt.

Even if it were legally acceptable, I'd still have a problem with it.

Any time a person uses excessive force in the name of "self-defense", I take serious issue.

When I get a chance to, I will listen to the audio. Maybe there's something I'm missing from the brief description on that Wikipedia page.

But, it just seems like he would have had more reasonable options.

There's pragmatic self-defense, and then there's emotional murder.

The dude was pissed off about all the recent break-ins (and TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLY SO), but that does not justify murder. He didn't shoot them each once in the leg or chest and then went and called 911. He shot them MULTIPLE times each, and then went and shot them in the head to make sure that they were DEAD.

Incapacitating and killing are two VERY different things.

I'm not necessarily agreeing with the severity of the sentence he got. But he definitely did not do what was most ethical/moral for the situation.

Like hasn't this dude ever seen Home Alone?

    Smdh.
  14. gadzooks Dark Matter [keratinize my mild-tasting blossoming]
Full disclosure, though: I'm basing my opinion on the Wikipedia page's description and not on the audio track.

My laptop's audio is a bit fucked.
  15. gadzooks Dark Matter [keratinize my mild-tasting blossoming]
Had he shot them and injured them, rather than deliberately kill them, I would absolutely see the homeowner as the victim and them as the criminals.
  16. gadzooks Dark Matter [keratinize my mild-tasting blossoming]
The reason why I immediately start favoring the victims in this particular case is that he was not "standing his ground" / "defending his castle" or whatever.

He straight up murdered those intruders.

He shot them multiple times, and even in the head at the end, and KILLED them.

If you're camping out and expecting intruders, you can EASILY incapacitate them without killing them.

    Straight up murder, IMO.

Holy shit, that is an incredibly interesting legal case.

    Pre-meditated self-defense...

It's almost like a contradiction in terms, but it inspires so many possible arguments for either side.

I've never been stabbed (come very close many times) but I have been hit with a baseball bat on several different occasions and wasn't really sour about it, nor did I feel a sense of powerlessness or that I was less of a man.

I get what you're saying, and I don't think I really disagree with any of it.

But the interesting question under it all, the "why" - you do kinda touch on it actually with the following...

nor did I feel a sense of powerlessness or that I was less of a man

But one with a more scholarly interest in the topic would have to question this even further (WHY does sexual violence invoke a sense of powerlessness and loss of (wo)manhood and all that, while other violence does not? Is it strictly biological? Or is it cultural? or some combination thereof?).

But yeah, I woke up to a girl sucking my dick before and I felt kinda weird about that but I passed back out fucked her the next day I think. I feel weirder about that then all the violence I've had perpetrated upon myself. When I was quite young I had an incident where I was basically (literally) sexually assaulted by 3 slightly older girls and that has stayed with me my whole life and probably influenced my sexual development. Blah

I was trying to stick exclusively to forced penetrative sex, NOT because I wanted to downplay any other form, but simply to make the debate a lot easier.

But, of course, if you factor in woman on man rape, woman on woman rape, statutory rape, drug-facilitated rape, etc, etc, etc... It becomes an ever more complex issue.

Originally posted by Sudo being raped basically ruins a life and ensures a woman will have trust issues, hate men yet seek to please them, become a stripper/escort etc. etc. etc. and this should be pretty clear to anyone.

Being stabbed is whatever, really only causes great emotional pain if it was someone close to you. My mother was stabbed by a boyfriend when she would young and had lasting scars for a long time. Meanwhile I know a ton of women who've been raped and are shells of their former selves.

My point wasn't so much one of trying to hammer out a solid hierarchy, but rather to point out that mmQ's initial point, at least, what I interpreted it to be, precisely follows from your post.

You've explained what typically happens as a result of the event, but there's no explanation as to the why.

Why is one event so much more devastating than the other?

Its more of a philosophical question than an empirical one.

And also, if women end up hating men after being raped by a man? Who do men end up hating and distrusting if they are raped (by another man)?

Its a complex, and potentially interesting topic, but is virtually impossible to debate without people jumping the gun and letting the emotionality of it take hold.

That being said, I'm being incredibly charitable when interpreting mmQ's point.
