This guy was burglarized multiple times so he hid in his basement and murdered these 2 who showed up.

Holy shit, that is an incredibly interesting legal case.

    Pre-meditated self-defense...

It's almost like a contradiction in terms, but it inspires so many possible arguments for either side.

The fact that he got convicted and sentenced to life is bullshit by the way. Even if there was premeditation, there were clearly extenuating circumstances.

Too bad it were two white kids being dumb. But you really shouldn't be breaking into peoples houses in the first place.

The reason why I immediately start favoring the victims in this particular case is that he was not "standing his ground" / "defending his castle" or whatever.

He straight up murdered those intruders.

He shot them multiple times, and even in the head at the end, and KILLED them.

If you're camping out and expecting intruders, you can EASILY incapacitate them without killing them.

    Straight up murder, IMO.

Had he shot them and injured them, rather than deliberately kill them, I would absolutely see the homeowner as the victim and them as the criminals.

Full disclosure, though: I'm basing my opinion on the Wikipedia page's description and not on the audio track.

My laptop's audio is a bit fucked.

he was literally defending his castle tho, it's not like he went and shot random people for kicks. These 2 brought this upon themselves.

was he supposed to call out? what if they were armed in turn?

Even if it were legally acceptable, I'd still have a problem with it.

Any time a person uses excessive force in the name of "self-defense", I take serious issue.

When I get a chance to, I will listen to the audio. Maybe there's something I'm missing from the brief description on that Wikipedia page.

But, it just seems like he would have had more reasonable options.

There's pragmatic self-defense, and then there's emotional murder.

The dude was pissed off about all the recent break-ins (and TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLY SO), but that does not justify murder. He didn't shoot them each once in the leg or chest and then went and called 911. He shot them MULTIPLE times each, and then went and shot them in the head to make sure that they were DEAD.

Incapacitating and killing are two VERY different things.

I'm not necessarily agreeing with the severity of the sentence he got. But he definitely did not do what was most ethical/moral for the situation.

The guy's a mental case. A genuine menace to society. He's right where he belongs. The only thing I found shocking about what happened is the retarded judge who gave him bail. Guy plainly murders two kids in cold blood, and the judge gives him bail. That judge deserves to be removed from the bench and then criminally charged for aiding and abetting after the fact.

The guy left the bodies in the attic for over 24 hours before he called the police. Pretty sure it was Thanksgiving or some shit.

She didn't hear it because it was several minutes after her cousin didn't come out that she went into the home & went down to the attic. He shot her coming down the stairs, & then shot her again at close range in the eye.

And even after he shot her in the eye, when he dragged her body to dump it on top of her cousin's dead body, she started moving, so he shot her again under the chin as she lay on the tarp.
