  2. Yes, the earth is warming and it is because we produce so much co2, but it will probably be ok because we are starting to produce less of it and will eventually figure out a way to get some of it out of the atmosphere. Unless Trump completely fucks everything up.

An IQ test can accurately measure the intelligence of a general population because most people don't spend years practicing, familiarizing themselves with the reasoning and developing strategies to attack the sort of problems they use. What you seem to have done is turned it into a measure of your test taking ability.

And then of course there's the eye test. Reading your posts have never suggested to me that you're anything more than moderately intelligent.

the problems are as novel as any vocabulary question or analogy would be. my comparison with the SAT stays.. people familiarize themselves with the question format and practice many examples. they see improvements that are mostly marginal in the majority of cases. also, my scores never deviated very much even after years. 133 and 143 were my first scores, and i've had 156 score on verbal tests so my general ability isn't influenced by practice effect. any new question requires a new approach to solve. taking the same test over and over is a different story, and 2nd/3rd attempts are considered valid. high range tests are often untimed and people have been known to spend months working on the problems. there is a standard error of measurement though, so scores between many tests can vary by 30+ points. i don't find you to be intelligent but my "eye test" you would consider less valid than yours. if a test truly has a high g loading it reduces the influence of any potential practice effect because high g loading correlates with question novelty.

  15. Originally posted by Bill Krozby and by the way green plastic, you should go ahead and get one, I highly doubt your apartment is too small for a cat, I have a super tiny apartment, the smallest I've ever lived in and my current cat and my old one both lived here with me and it was all good.

Cat's are very independent, my friend down the street and I both have cats and work during the day. They will probably just sleep and eat while you're gone. My cat is extremely nocturnal and plays at night.

A dog would be a totally different thing where I'd feel bad being gone all day and not being able to take him out to walk.

You'd be surprised how many people (mainly girls) lock their dogs in a cage all day while they are at work. It's terrible.

Probably the worst thing I do to my cat is put him outside of my room sometimes at night because he starts poking me in the face and smelling me when I'm trying to sleep. But other than that, he usually sleeps on the left side of my bed.

Yea but I heard bengals are different and need more attention or room or something. Also I have pretty severe insomnia at times when I'm sober and can't risk having it wake me up. I'm trying to move sometime though so there's hope.

not when the problems are novel + normed on a sample of people who take iq tests as a hobby

you cant make yourself improve 3+ standard deviations

it's like SAT prep, you can practice for the SAT but on average theres only a 50 point increase on a 2400 point scale after prep courses. practice helps slightly but it doesn't reduce the g loading enough to discredit the end result. that would be like a 5 point increase on an IQ scale.

i think you're just mad and edgy

  18. Yesterday I was walking around the park and I found some mushrooms that seemed to be growing from the dead remains of an iceplant that was spreading across the ground.

So I started thinking, it would be really cool if you could make a terrarium of some sort that at one end had water where fish could swim, then like a beach sort of thing and then some area where plants grow using the energy of the fish waste and perhaps any extra fish food that was put into the tank, then you could have mushrooms growing from the dead plants. If you got a species of fish that could somehow eat the mushrooms, that would be really cool.

If I'm ever really rich I'm going to do things like this but with a huge terrarium. Like a room, that is a designated habitat. You could have it look graceful af with koi fish, psychedelic mushrooms (or just a huge variety of mushrooms) and maybe some cool plants or even liserds.
