Yes, that would be an investment. That would be an unusually large interest rate on a CD too. If you made a dollar in a year on a $5 investment, that’s a 20% interest rate or rate of return. I’ll take that any day. -

You’re confusing the term. You aren’t investing money. You are spending less money in exchange for something that is valuable to you. Unless you can then generate an income or sell it in the future for a profit, it’s not an investment. -

Tax brackets are a tiered system. Meaning your highest bracket doesn’t apply to your entire income - just the portion above the lower brackets. -

Those are good ideas. I would add mention to architecture in addition to natural landmarks depending on the city.
I’m also not opposed to restaurants. Bars don’t entertain me. I like to make it a point to seek out restaurants that are new to me or that I at least don’t have in my area when I visit somewhere new. It doesn’t need to be too exotic, just different.
Along the lines of art, things like museums and factory tours are interesting. I like to experience the local flavor when possible.
Back to hanging out, nothing wrong with indulging a bit and having good conversations. I agree though that the price tag of a bar is a bummer. -
