Was pretty excited about getting to do programming as a job, writing the forum software at night, generally pretty wide eyed. I was also drunk a lot and would try about any drug someone would offer me, which was something that happened a lot more back then lol.
Now I’m older, fatter, and happier. Significantly more jaded too lol, realized professional software development is more office politics than technical, tried going into research and realized that was the same thing for much much worse pay. Now I mostly punch the time card and do whatever pays without putting too much of myself into work until I amass enough money to build my bunker in the mountains and start my mail bombing campaign. -

It depends, sometimes the driver or api will do something like swap, some stacks will just elect to crash on the assumption there’s no point in continuing. But if you need to wait on main memory access in a graphics pipeline it defeats a large part of the purpose of the parallelism of a gpu and it’s not just like things get slower, you end up approaching unaccelerated performance and you more or less might as well not have the gpu. -

The entire reason gpus have expensive specialized vram is because main memory is not fit for purpose

In actual dialog it’s a pattern that allows for interjection, like it’s an opportunity for an interlocutor to say “no, not right” or “I don’t follow, explain” which is good. If you’re talking with intent of being understood or convincing someone you should be checking in with their understanding of what you’re saying periodically and that’s exactly what “right?” does.
