2015-11-14 at 7:55 PM UTC in Do fast food workers deserve a $15 wage?
if mandated minimum wages jump, especially by something like 100%, the employer is certainly not going to want to eat that (especially in industries like food service) so he's going to raise prices and cut shifts, and is essentially not going to be able to deliver the same product or service at the same price - everything's going to be poorer quality or far more expensive
Then you seem to owe us an account of why the opposite isn't true, if we lowered minimum wage why wouldn't we expect to see higher quality products at lower prices? Look at places with no or vanishing minimum wages like... China. Or India. Yes, they do manage to manufacture quite cheaply but it's not exactly what you'd call "high quality" on the whole, plus thsoe countries working classes have absolutely shit buying power and quality of life. What you're proposing empirically does not seem to be the case -

Until you've lived in the real world you are never going to get it. When I entered the workforce min wage was $2.15/hour, milk was $.79, gas was $.50, and a loaf of bread was $.25. Now minimum wage is $7.25, milk is close to $4.00, gas is $2.50 (was close to $4.00), and a loaf of bread is $3.00. So unless that attorney doesn't eat or own a car his expenses have gone up and so have his fees.
But do the math yourself Einstein.
So what part of "living in the real world" entails confusing causation and corrolation? -

Embrace it, Lanny. Something I've noticed with you people, leftists, is that you behave as if a group of of your comrades are going to appear out of thin air and lynch you if you say the wrong thing, even if you're in private with a person who would be completely accepting of those views. There are so many cognitive biases at play, so many sociological aspects, and little of it really has to do with reason, or at least only a smaller fraction, but only in the sense that you begin with a conviction and work backwards to confirm it.
That's like your goto phrase when what you really mean is "I deeply disagree with these people but can't articulate it" so your reaction is the catchall slur that's so general it can literally never be applied to a human being without being true.
Anyway, in case you didn't pick up on it I'm, of course, being sarcastic in this context. I'm posting on a website I personally named niggas in space, I imagine it would be clear this point I'm not expecting wrathful liberal PC police to swoop down on me at any moment. Anyway, 90% of the rage about political correctness is manufactured stuff dredged up from obscure corners of tumbler and such, straw positions for wingnuts to beat their chests over.Wouldn't you love to just give in one day, get drunk/shitfaced, and go on a rant about how much you fucking hate niggers and Muslims? *moves behind you and places hands on your shoulders, or wraps arms loosely around chest if you want to get more homoerotic, puts face close to your preferred ear* "Come on, give in, say it. Tell me how much you hate those damn A-rabs."
I wouldn't, but mostly because I don't hate niggers and muslims. If I wanted to go on a rant about niggers and mud slimes I'd get shitfaced and do it, but contrary to popular conservative fantasy we are not all "naturally racist", some of us really don't feel the need to claim some kind of mastubatory racial superiority. -

What do you mean? How long does the script take to execute on my local machine? Well if i run it, it's done in a second but it will remain scanning until i CTRL+C to interrupt after which it calls my usage function to display my options and help information.
Ahh, that's your issue.Alright but commix the tool i'm using to interact with the webserver through a pseudo-shell always notifies me when the connection gets timed out and i did not see this happen.
So maybe the timeout never comes, but we wouldn't expect to get output either way. CGI's usual execution model is that it maps a url to a file on the server, executes the file (spawns a process) and buffers standard out from that file until the process terminates and then returns all that data as a HTTP response. It's a very unixy way of doing things. Anyway, if you need to send ctrl-C to terminate then your CGI is going to either time out or wait on that process forever. Try doing something like "python PyCat.py > foobar.txt" and after some delay (waiting for your program to produce output) "cat foobar.txt" and you should see your output. -

2015-11-14 at 2:52 AM UTC in Ok guys help me own this network. How long does it take to execute on your local? You're using the shellshock through CGI exploit right? Spectral, miracle of miracles, could actually be right here. The webserver will timeout your connection if your process doesn't terminate within a certain timeframe (I think it's in the ballpark of 30 seconds, but depending on how conservative the webmaster is and how much traffic they experience it could be higher or lower).

Lanny your the most intelligent idiot I've ever come across. When that lawyer has to pay more for everything he buys because min wage is 15/hour do you think he will eat it or raise his rates to compensate?
He doesn't have to pay more for everything, just fastfood and manual labor and such which are pretty cheap anyway. The world would actually probably be a better place if you had to be wealthy to eat and mcdonalds anyway. The market price for lawyers is not set by what construction workers can bear bruh. -
2015-11-14 at 1:35 AM UTC in I've remembered my true calling.Do you ever take the powder extract or whatever? It sounds appealing because it's actually surprisingly hard to find gaff free stuff at reasonable prices around here plus drinking cough syrup is kinda ghetto.

I mean do I even want to know what you intend to do when your twenty bottles run out?
On a similar note my previous employer is finally choking up the last $500 they owe me, I had just written it off as the usual fucking you get when dealing "businessmen". Think I'm going to buy a decent set of headphones and blow the rest on some kind of drugs. Two to three hundred dollars of psychedelics would take an unreasonable amount of time to plow through, and would the swill I drink ($300 / $20 * 1.75 = 26 liters and change, not sure my liver could take it). Stims could be good but but the lack of sleep would be a downer, especially when I run out. Maybe I'll spring for some darknet opiates, that could be fun. I wonder how much bundy I could get, how long it would take to do it all. -

Thinking too much does cause depression. If you're depressed, learning how to silence your mind can help you. If you're a determinist, you shouldn't be worried too much about planning what you're going to do next.
It doesn't really work that way, determinists don't believe in inefficacy of causality, indeed the determinist should be more convinced than anyone that a failure to plan can cause negative outcomes, it's simply that whether or not we plan, whether or not we affect good rather than bad causes, is not something we have free agency in. In any case, whether or not we have a choice in the matter, it seems like if alternatives lie between reduced cognitive function (think of it as opt-in brain damage) and crippling depression then we find ourselves in a really dark place. -

Malice, remember you posted something about the correlation between depression and planning or high mental activity in some kind of non-human life? Do you still have that? In a bout of wikigolf I wondered upon the articles for Buddhist mindfulness and psychological rumination. The use of the term "rumination" to describe that particular mental phenomenon was interesting to me, reminded me of what you posted. I tend to think of the term as neutral or even positive (implying deep thought) but somebody picked it to describe a symptom and/or cause of depression. And like conversely mindfulness seems to imply the surrender of some level of agency or planning capacity which makes me uneasy. Like when I was reading about it I kept thinking "yeah, but how am I going to know what to do next if I'm always focused on the now". What a cruel joke it would be if planning, deep though, the higher cognitive functions that are generally considered to be what separate us from lower animals were inextricable from depression. If the only way to live as a higher animal was to walk the tightrope between self destructive obsession and base animalism. -
2015-11-13 at 8:33 PM UTC in Skinny puppyI've listened to their music of course, I think some of it is interesting and they seem well respected my people better versed in that general space of music but I wouldn't really pick up a skinny puppy album to listen to for enjoyment. I can enjoy edgy things but it not quite the right sort of edgy for my taste.
