   Exactly. Empathy benefits society but not individuals. You're best off being without empathy in a society full of empathetic people.

    Have you considered just converting books to audio using text-2-speech. I've been playing about with both text-2-speech and speech-2-text and it's fairly easy using espeak.

    This means he's dead and you need to accept that. If somehow he is in jail he will just show up one day. You don't need to track him down it can only do more harm than good and there is nothing you can do for him.
