Americans have a real hard time with sarcasm...even when it's blatantly obvious. I've lost track of the number of times I've said something..clearly being sarcastic and they recipient took it seriously.
Example: When Exwife #2 was being released from hospital early after ODing (Because a Hurricane was coming so they kicked everyone out) I was in her room along with a Nurse who was trying to unhook her IV and other cabling etc and exwife #2 wasn't being particularly cooperative, the nurse kept telling her "Keep still or I can't do it"...I said to the nurse "I can give her a backhander if it will help".
I left to go bring the car to the front of the hospital and the nurse says to exwife #2 "If you are in an abusive relationship I can get you help right now, you don't have to leave with him"
Exwife #2 laughed at her and said "He's joking, if he ever tried it I'd floor him myself"
