I tried to but my audio is disabled right now.

I'd have to turn off my TV (which, incidentally, I only put on to help me fall asleep).

I have only one audio input to my stereo system.

It's a darn tragedy is what it is.

    It's the whole proletarian lifestyle.

I eat my gruel, drink my swish, and watch and listen to EITHER my computer or my TV.

Would you approve if your daughter married an African tree?

you're right though, lyrics might as well have been written by me. probably why i love it.

If "woke" means cool and/or aware, I'm a coma patient that was hit by a truck, and rendered vegetative, in the 1970's.

Nah, but she a respectable lady.

She couldn't stop talking about her shoe-salesman of a son.

    I agree.

    What about black African trees?

    Kill or save?

    Either way, it's depressing.

    But trademark Rizzo content though.

Are you drinking vermouth right now?

I'm drinking Strongbow (hard) apple cider mixed with Fireball whiskey.

It's actually kind of a Christmasy drink.

And I'm not too fond of Christmas (spent the entire Christmas alone).

Oh, and for context for anyone confused:

    https://niggasin.space/thread/32012

By the way, I skimmed through the thread, and I appreciated the responses.

Juicebox, especially, I think gets where I'm coming from.

I want to reiterate that I am not drawing an analogy between NiS and a bunch of older kids hanging out outside the school pushing drugs and saying "come on, it's just a bit of weed/alcohol/meth/heroin/etc, just join us and be high, it's all good."

While there may be a lot of drug-positive talk around here, it's inconsequential in and of itself.

It's the fact that my brain has made a connection between posting on Internet forums and increasing my levels of intoxication. That's it.

I could be a moderator on a Christian youth forum, or a Kia car enthusiasts forum, or even an NA/AA sobriety forum...

Something about posting on online forums drives my drinking.

    Juicebox gets it.

I just wanted to get that out there for anyone out there who doesn't get it.

    I am pro-NiS.

I just can't post here (all that often).

    Hey my fellow space niggas,

I occasionally lurk (while signed out), but thought I'd mention it.

    Not every day.

    I'm weaning myself off gradually.

But you may see the occasional post from me when the alcohol + urge-to-post surpass a certain threshold.

If I don't end up responding to a post you make at some point, maybe even referring to me directly, never take it personally.

I've either seen it and am not posting because I'm trying to stick to certain habits, or I missed it altogether.

I consider every last one of you a friend (of sorts), so I don't want to give any impression of impropriety.

Also, I think I'm only lurking right now because I've been drinking*.

By falling asleep at the wheel (figuratively speaking), I have somehow lapsed into full-blown alcoholism.

I've been able to sustain a NIGHTLY drinking habit for over a decade, with exemplary results.

But somehow I've started drinking earlier and earlier.

One contributing factor has been having a job where I telecommute, so I have the opportunity to start drinking earlier.

But also, I think posting on NiS has had a contribution as well.

As long as I can remember, I have associated all my Internet forum activities (mainly surrounding the Totse/Zoklet/NiS sphere) with drinking and drug use. I have a tendency to drink when I post, and to post when I drink, and I think that's having an impact as well.

So, I must say my (at least temporary) goodbye's.

I had started typing up long personalized messages to posters, but then realized that I would feel kinda shitty if I left anyone out.

Also, I really need to accelerate this process as much as I can.

I mean, the occasional hangover is one thing, I can handle that, but waking up with full-blown withdrawal symptoms is scary.

I'm not deleting my account or anything. I can't remember if I saw any code in ISS repo pertaining to auto-unregistering users after a given segment of time.

And I also wanted to leave with some closure, because I did post a lot of mopey, depressing threads, referencing suicide and all. I figured it would be kind of discourteous to leave any question in people's minds on all of that.

    Anyway, it's been a blast.

    TTYL, y'all!

And taking it on blind faith that you can repeat the experiment and obtain empirical support for your position, but never actually doing so, is not exactly laudable. Essentially, you have no empirical evidence that the evidence you believe to be empirically and scientifically valid actually is empirical itself, until you yourself observe it. Empirical evidence is an anecdote unless gathered yourself.

There's a reason I mentioned logically directly alongside empirically.

They both build our knowledge together.

I do not really solely on reason nor solely on my own personal empirical observations or solely on those made by others, but a combination of all three.

Then, yeah, sure, whatever, in that particular scenario, I might resort to lethal violence.

I still maintain that it is fundamentally different from your first scenario though.

Originally posted by HTS I rarely, if ever, see a globe gobbler do more than reference an experiment performed by someone else. The shape of the Earth is a foregone conclusion to them, not worth proving.

That's because the burden of proof lies on the one making the claim that goes against conventional wisdom.

I suppose there's something admirable about at least attempting to find evidence, but it's not really necessary for the one taking the standard position.

A standard high school education provides sufficient reason to believe the standard position.

Educated people don't just "take the teacher's (or textbook's) word for it".

The conclusion that the Earth is round is constructed logically and empirically.

There's absolutely nothing inherent about YouTube that makes it any less valuable of an information source than any other public website.

Heck, like 90% of my programming / computer science education is from YouTube (and it was enough to land me a job).

But, there's a lot of misinformation too.

Anyone can post whatever they want on YouTube.

So physicists like Stephen Hawking and such were just all part of some elaborate scheme to perpetuate this particular narrative?

    Dafuq?

What exactly do you mean by "confirmed"?

Common mythological beliefs across cultures are only evidence of certain psychological patterns that have developed as a product of evolution.

The modern world is built on interest/debt-based money/banking and that works by businesses borrowing money to supply things people want.

So you borrow money in order to build ships in order to buy tea to import it to Britain. The principal + interest is repaid by the success of your business venture.

At some stage the aristocracy decided they could make more money by manipulating people's understanding of geography. For instance the most fertile tea growing regions of India are approximately 50 miles east from London, in the "North Sea". A clipper could do 3 runs a day in perfect weather.

However by convincing people that India is thousands of miles and several weeks away merchants could earn massive profits on their imports. Part of this con involved the fiction of the "globe" and the "discovery" of the distant lost continent of the "Americas".

The world actually consists of only 3 actual continents, and bears almost no relation to traditional maps - or "globes" if wrapping a map around a football is your kick.

This would make fascinating science fiction or alternative history fiction.

But, as with any conspiracy theory, it just falls apart when you think about just how many people would have to be on on it and keep it a secret.

I respect that you don't dedicate yourself to any particular non-spherical shape. It shows that you are thinking at least somewhat critically about it.

But think of the logistics of sustaining such a secret for so long... That should be enough to at least make you consider that you could be wrong.

I could totally be wrong about the shape of the Earth. For all I know, it's a donut or a cylinder or a Mobius strip...

But if I had to place my bets, I would go with round.
