Man, I love Daniel Day Lewis (no homo).

He's amazing in just about any movie he's in.

And he's super selective about which movies he'll do (so he ends up being in like, one every few years)... Unlike Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, who were once great actors, but now are pumping them out like two a year.

Also, I think DDL holds the record for most academy awards for best actor.

Stupid kids they had a nice spot and I actually didn't mind until the thumping nigger music at 3am.

Damn... People can be so disrespectful.

It's unfortunate that we even have to go to these lengths just for some basic peace and civility.

One for the front door and one for the back, they have two way talk and the app works great.
Instead of a pressure pad at the rear door get one these.

    I bought one works good.
I had a problem with assholes partying in my back yard now they see the light come on and they scatter.

The camera I've got is really good, but I do like the motion sensor for lights...

It occured to me briefly last night while I was drinking but I forgot to write it down anywhere.

I'll probably get those exact lights actually.

Even Totse folk generally agreed that it was a tad too morbid.

Yeah that black hat hacking and exposing people's PI on here is definitely not okay in my books.

Oh, and regarding progress on my whole project here...

I've gotten some fantastic advice from aldra in a thread I made about the intercom system, and have been researching all the different moving parts and how they can be processed digitally.

I also set up a camera right by my rear patio door that notifies me by email if it detects any motion. That way, I can immediately check the live stream to see who it is.

I also got a second camera with a lot more features that I plan to place directly outside. I'm also going to replace the light in the back with a WiFi enabled color-changing light. That, plus the two-way communication with the outside camera, and a built in siren in the camera... I can probably scare some folks away pretty easily if they don't respect the laminated sign posted out back...

Stuff that was posted on the Internet publicly at some point resurfacing later is a VERY tricky ethical conundrum.

Some argue that, it it's posted somewhere publicly, it's meant to be public, and therefore if someone saves it and posts it later, it's completely fine.

Then on the other hand, of course sometimes people post things that they later regret posting...

I'm kinda on the fence regarding an official position, but generally, out of common courtesy, if someone tells me that they don't want that thing public anymore, I would abide their wishes.

But posting anything publicly like that is kinda putting that data (whatever it is - be it photo or video or text or what have you) at risk. Not everyone is courteous enough to respect that privacy.

I'll never watch porn the same again.

Yeah, that's definitely not a cool thing to do. It's a betrayal of trust and privacy.

Your frustration with Matt is definitely justified.

Matt's on the up and up now though, it seems.

One of the reasons is I don't trust anybody, so sometimes I imagine a scenario where I might need to find out who someone really is by watching them, but I'd need to keep my distance. I'm good with disguises, FX makeup, so that part isn't an issue.. The audio stuff I can do fairly well. I just don't know much about cameras. But info on specifics of audio surveillance isn't a bad thing to contribute if anyone feels like it.
Anything surveillance related would be good, but especially with long range cameras.

I'm kind of a fan of learning about things just for the sake of learning new things, so I like this thread and will likely contribute what I can to it.

I'd imagine a professional, or even hobbyist, photographer would be a goldmine of information on even long range cameras. They'll know all about different kinds of zoom lenses, about aperture and all that other technical photography/camera stuff. I'm not really all that knowledgeable on cameras like that myself.

Tracking is, to me, the really fun part.

Staking out a site for hours and hours doing onsite surveillance looks to me like it could be incredibly boring after a while.

Now, tracking, assuming one doesn't know where the person is yet (because there's also tracking as in putting a tracker on a vehicle with GPS signals, etc), usually comes down to information:
    1. Computer-based resources/databases that host all kinds of data on people (department of motor vehicles, various government databases, etc).
    2. People: Being a PI comes down to a whole lot of knocking on doors and gaining information peripherally.

Now, #1 could be done in all kinds of black hat ways if you want to dig up LOTS of information, but, I kinda wanna keep things within certain ethical constraints.

I went out on a case with a friend once who put an ad on craigslist saying he was a private investigator (he wasn't; lulz ensued), and he actually got a call.

We ended up helping this Chinese lady track down a man she was supposed to marry once she arrived in Canada, but who was completely avoiding her.

I couldn't tell if she was just trying to settle a fair contract or get answers for her own satisfaction, or, if she was just a straight up stalker.

That being said, I figure that as long as the PI works within the boundaries of the law, and exhibits a certain degree of ethical obligations, then it can be a respectable career.
