2019-09-14 at 11:07 PM UTC in ATTN : Lanny, aldra, sophie, other coders.Come to think of, though, you don't really need to ensure integrity of each checksum I guess, because you can't really fake a checksum.
But by using a blockchain instead of a database to store all the checksums, you do get the benefit of data persistence, since the checksums will be stored on potentially millions of hard drives around the world.
And also, that means anyone can check and validate the integrity of any given video with a much higher degree of confidence. -
2019-09-14 at 10:43 PM UTC in ATTN : Lanny, aldra, sophie, other coders.Storing the actual media data would, as aldra pointed, be ridiculously impractical.
But storing just the checksum of each video, as Sophie suggests, would actually be a way to implement this idea.
As long as the whole point is just to ensure the integrity of the multimedia (and thus be able to detect if someone tampered with it in any way whatsoever), and not necessarily guarantying the persistence of the original data, then storing the checksums on a blockchain would actually straight up accomplish exactly this.
The benefit to using a blockchain over a regular old database is that the chain of checksums would be like a higher-order "checksum of checksums", which would in turn provide assurance of integrity of each checksum.
So, yeah, vinny, this ain't such a bad idea. -

2019-09-13 at 10:50 PM UTC in I got caught masturbating in a public pool, today......I just realized that the story implies more than I had assumed.
You were literally INSIDE the pool? Masturbating underwater?
For some reason I just assumed you were in the men's changeroom (but of course a woman wouldn't catch that without being a perv herself), or maybe somehow adjacent to the pool.
Dude, masturbating IN a public pool is pretty gross.
I thought this was just out of convenience, not perversity.
WellHung, my man, you gotta do something about all this. -

The fact that there was a "she", and that it was a public place, I just assumed she went into full on panic mode.
Apparantly the male body is a sinful, dirty, shameful thing.
Being nude (while possessing a penis) in public is a crime akin to high treason to most people. -
2019-09-13 at 9:54 PM UTC in I got caught masturbating in a public pool, today......Lol. I call fake news. I can't imagine they'd just let such a thing pass.
That being said, I've definitely jerked it in some rather public places.
I lived out of a car for close to a year.
I literally masturbated "in public" every day. -

Originally posted by gadzooks commonly observed among CEOs and wall street types, as it turns out - and this comes from a place of no bias, because I plan to be a CEO at some point in my life, and I don't quite consider myself a psychopath
I just realized that this was a total tautology and not an actual argument about my not being a psychopath.
I guess I'm forced to elaborate...
Essentially, I would like to be "private island" rich, but not at the expense of fundamental human needs of others.
Like, I wouldn't buy up companies and liquidate their assets just for some quick money. Mass layoffs have the potential to ruin lives.
But that's more wall street life than CEO life.
CEO's can be ethical.
They rarely are, but they can be. -

2019-09-13 at 8:58 PM UTC in I believe most people are intelligent and goodThere's always the potential explanation, as reductive as most people find it, that being "good" or "bad" comes right down to genetics and early childhood experience. This, of course, implies determinism, which means we really don't ever "choose" to be "good" or "bad".
Intelligence, on the other hand, at least as defined in terms of IQ, or some other scientifically developed / empirically observed measure, is found to be predominately innate.
Basically, this is all why I try to avoid personal judgment (NOTE: restraining from personal judgment does not preclude assigning responsibility in some sense), for both stupidity and ignorance, but also even for acts of immorality.
There will always be complicating factors, like:
1. Genuine psychopathy (commonly observed among CEOs and wall street types, as it turns out - and this comes from a place of no bias, because I plan to be a CEO at some point in my life, and I don't quite consider myself a psychopath).
2. Brain damage (this can be distinguished from genetic abnormality, but is equally predetermined).
3. And finally, differing belief systems (leading to some fundamental cognitive bias - whether that's biological and/or genetic or not is definitely open to speculation, but cognitive bias is a MAJOR contributing factor towards real world problems; ranging from racism to other - oft considered much more benign, although often just as bad - forms of prejudice and tribalism.)
Oh man, I could go on and on, but basically, "goodness", if we can even all agree on a solid and consistent definition of the term, will always be open to interpretation by every acting agent at any given moment.
So, yeah, I guess I kind of agree with the underlying premise, but also simultaneously completely disagree.
Whatever that means. -
