in theory beneficial but overall a waste of time to become knowledgeable of, and is more for bragging rights/appearing intelligent/the fun of learning than for its actual usefulness. there may be a few circumstances where there's a reason to use an alternative OS, but i dont think these situations occur outside of a specialist's interests.
