Also: if they kill children, they're murderers. Child murderers. That's an entirely different beast. One that pedophilia is entirely secondary to. In fact, stigma against pedophilia could even be an explanation for WHY they kill the kids (sometimes) - wanting to insure the children don't get them in trouble. -

PS: The "greater evil" of "murder" is something humans are really keen on justifying. As I alluded to earlier... killing in war, in self-defense... it's not hard for people to justify purges in the same way they justify going to war. A purge is just a really lopsided civil war, declared by the government instead of revolutionaries. And there are plenty of people who argue already that rape is an equal or greater crime to murder. There wouldn't be that much of a fuss about the justification as long as pedophiles are perceived as rapists/potential rapists, to be honest. -

Prioritizing the consequences you'd potentially face for violating the conditions of your release over the well-being of a child pretty much seals the deal on how shit you are as a person and confirms that you never had any regard for the well-being of children to begin with. -

To be fair, when people think of pedophiles they think of people who have been caught for raping/molesting children. I mean if they haven't been caught molesting children, you don't know they're a pedophile... right? This association between sociopathy and pedophilia is understandable. Almost forgivable, even. It's also the reason why studies on pedophiles are notoriously unreliable - you can't get a full picture of what the average pedophile looks like if most/all of your sample group are people who have been arrested for acting on their pedophilic urges. The image of the average pedophile in people's minds as a result is that of a person generally inclined to criminality.
It'd be like doing a study on "the psychology of killers" and only sampling murderers in jail, not people who have killed in self-defense or in war. And of course, in the same way, most people associate "killer" with "people who have been found guilty of murder" not "people who killed others". Not that that's a perfect analogy of course, "killers" have actually killed. Pedophiles haven't necessarily molested. -
