it doesn't protect you if IP addresses change, but the chances of you fucking up on so many levels is slim. -

but still, you can route your server traffic through your normal eth0 rather than tun0, you just add something like this to your vpn client config for whatever network you want to avoid the vpn.

use a vpn and find yourself a hacked or open proxy, they're not that hard to come by, sometimes people firewall personal proxies on too wide a subnet, so start looking close to home.
i mix them up
also firewall locally to drop ALL shitposting traffic except via tun0 or your proxy - this is such a simple step and protects against accidentally connecting when your proxy/vpn is down.
also, try to fuck with your resolver to AVOID your own ISP under all circumstances. it's simple to just use google or cloudflare, but i also throw in red-herring ISPs that I can find who allow me to resolve, mainly for fun. (the reason for this is if I set up my own DNS server, I can make you leak your ISP really easily) -
