Yeah, the fact that google had a political stance on the US presidential elections is probably the stupidest reason to call for a boycott I've heard.

Almost every major US corporation has policy interests, and accordingly an interest in the election of policy makers. It's doubly comic since there's a good chance that OP made this thread with a chunk of zogulus circuitry strapped to his face.

I can only assume you do and will slowly join the perl side

I have a philosophical position on list comprehensions which is basically that they should be used where you'd do map in other languages but you're not going for point free style (which I increasingly think is justified since I'm not crazy about the lambda syntax and I have a nagging suspicion that the interpreter isn't smart about it and it ends up using an extra stack frame relative to LCs). And that's what this is, using a full for loop would maybe save you some eyestrain if you're not familiar with the LC/ternary syntax but I don't actually think it would make the logic any clearer.

That said I do have a kind of love of batshit crazy perl oneliners. I don't particularly like the language, I used it recently and the multi-dimensional array, reference, and hashmap syntax (which interoperate in weird ways I still don't really get) just seem like a wart instead of something that does anything to improve expressiveness. But I like the way perl programmers think and the culture that has a certain sense of privacy and autonomy that necessarily goes with the prevailing attitudes towards accessibility and authorial freedom to shoot yourself in the foot.

A little tip for you bud. The best insults are grounded in reality. For example "you're an ugly overweight man who dies his hair in a wildly unsuccessful attempt to look younger than you are and you have a small penis". A bad insult might be something like "you're a whore with no standards" because while you probably don't have standards, we all know you don't get laid which makes calling you a whore an ineffective insult. Don't worry buddy, keep working on it and you'll figure out how to insult people one day, we're all rooting for you.

    I like working nights.

    I don't like working 10 hour shifts.

    My condolences.

Can you recommend one of the books in particular?

The traditional order is to read the two collections of short stories (The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny) before starting the "saga" books starting with Blood of Elves, but honestly I'd recommend skipping them and starting with BoE. In the short story collection you learn how Geralt meets some of the supporting cast for the first time (which is kind of refreshing given they just show up in the games) and get some lore but nothing essential. You also sit through some cringey sequences that don't really build up to anything more than "gee wizz, Geralt is cool", and the political elements of the world are really de-emphasized as the serial format discourages any hard continuity.

Actually not true, a professor's salary is paid by the university they're associated with. Being able to bring in grant money does bode well for one's prospects of advancement, I'll give you, but it's not like grant money is going into the pockets of researchers.

Of course this isn't all that important because Occam's razor favors an accurate physical reality which is modeled by experimental results over a grand scientific conspiracy to fake the existence of human caused climate change. Like really, what in the fuck do you think counts as positive evidence against the human-caused climate change hypothesis if you think the funding practices of academic research void that same research? What research do you think happens which is not subject to rejection on the same grounds?

So instead of scientific consensus you're basing your opinion on... your vague intuitions about how ecology works?

Like what do you think is happening here? Researchers are taking grant money (which actually can't be revoked regardless of your findings, btw), putting it in their back pocket, and just falsifying all the data? And this is counterbalanced by... studies largely funded by the most ecologically destructive industries in the world? Your personal feelings on the matter?

I'm not saying the contemporary institution of academic research is perfect and totally self correcting but your argument so far has been "huur durr people can be corrupt so my position is automatically right".

A lot of scientists have admitted to this fact.

You realize you don't write research conclusions in grant proposals, right?

This is a terrible idea, Bill Krozby is wholly incapable of stabilizing anything. He's like the human opposite of stability. That kid is better with no dad than a Bill Krozby-tier dad.

Bill Krozby, the best thing you can do for your daughter is stay out of her life. There's no better way to not be in someone's life than to be dead. Try killing yourself.

Yeah, the temple OS website says he's dead which seems about as official as it gets. Also has what I would guess is the last video he ever made, he clearly looks worn down.

Terry is the nig people should hold a moment of respectful silence for, not this tumor brain mccain.

If you're going to complain about the spam at least report it, you don't have to report every post, just one example that makes it clear spamming is happening. We get enough threads that I don't see them all so it helps if people report it when it happens.

"Deep" learning and "neural" nets in general are the biggest meme right now. AI winter never ended, we just got GPUs and datasets that make this shitty black folk art mode of ML economically feasible for a while. Go read a "state of the art" CNN paper, most of them are like "uhhh, we did some stuff and it worked super well in validation (trust us!) so yeah, publication please" and even the best ones basically boil down to "we did some stuff and maybe this is why it worked well in validation but we still don't actually know anything more than when we started".
