5th no I'll join a dating site!
You don't socialize with anyone though, literally no one has any idea what the hell you're talking about like 80% of the time, and that 20% where we can make sense of what you're saying it's when you're insulting and complaining about people. Is there a single human being on here that you're cool with?

2018-09-23 at 11:04 PM UTC in Doing a NAS Build
Turns out it was the SATA controller on the mobo that was causing intermittent read failures, but of course there's no good way to know that without testing the PSU, the mobo, and each of the drives separately. So I end up doing a return/replace on that and that's like a couple of hours of disassembly and re-doing the thermal paste on the other side, and a couple weeks of procrastinating and waiting on the mail.
New mobo arrives and I go through the assembly song and dance again. Get my shit installed, RAID set up all nice. Then I plug it into my TV thinking it might be nice to use for media playback too and I learn I can't get smooth playback out of it at 4K. Not surprising, I wasn't expecting a budget APU to be able to do it but I remembered I had a Radeon HD 6<something or other> in my closet from a gaming build a number of years ago. Mobo has a slot for it and the PSU can support the extra draw so I figure I'll give it a try. Problem is the card was not designed for a tiny ITX case and is longer than the mobo, extends into the drive bays. Actually if the bays are empty it'll fit, but when they're in the lock-in clip things extend too far. I find everything works if I pull the drives out and have them hanging out the side but that's not exactly a good time. The drive bays are actually reversible so I can turn them around to get everything to fit, but my screwdriver is too long to fit in the box (that's what she said) to unscrew stuff, so I have to disassemble like 60% of the chassis to make it work and reroute all the cables which took for fucking ever and made my knees sore since I was doing it on the floor (also what she said).
But at long last it lives and I have my seedbox and music collection backed up on redundant storage and a synchronized mirror of all my github repos. Next up is NiS database backups and email backups, and VLC playback controls over SSH or something similar.

it's not BS.. it just isn't used all of the time. it might be used to have warm periods to push crop rates up and prices down to control another stock .. depending on the year.
This has been known for years. even in the 1930-40s they "Seeded" clouds with dry ice to force rain to drop in a specific area while drying up the clouds as to not rain over an area already over saturated.
Cloud seeding is a thing that's been done for non-military purposes as well, it's well understood.
It has nothing to do with claims about "chemtrails", which are obviously different than cloud seeding. As the name suggests, cloud seeding involves adding chemicals to actual clouds, not dispersing chemicals into open atmosphere to generate the "chemtrails" that conspiracy theorists talk about. The fact that weather modification technology exists says no more about the validity of chemtail conspiracy theories than the existence of refrigerators says about ice ray freeze beams that are shot out of high tech sunglasses.

2018-09-20 at 1:32 AM UTC in Avatar Sizes are Shit
That might read kinda hostile but I don't mean it that way. It's just not part of the design goals of the forum to facilitate personal expression via badges or personal designs. It's the same reason we don't have automatic signatures.
I added avatars because they facilitate quicker scanning of pages, they are useful that way and quick/loose author identification does serve the design goals. But I'd have put in gravatars if they actually did anything to distinguish posters.
On the other hand we have to pay something for larger avatars. Pages get vertically stretched as they get bigger (and vertical conservation of space is pretty important on phone screens) and it costs bandwidth. Working on low end hardware was an explicit goal of the project so in addition to aggressive caching strategies I try to minimize payload sizes as much as possible. And if you disable image/video embedding but leave avatars on then (which is kind of the "max privacy" option) then the majority of the data transfer in a cold-cache page load is in the form of avatars. Every extra byte allowed in avatars hurts load stats while providing no real benefit by the rubric I've set out for the software.

"great man", "destroyed". An autistic dude who happens to be good at kernel development realized he was autistic lol, and you're acting like the sky is falling. Try removing your head from your ass.

I don't care for Dark Souls either though. Not into hard because hard genre.
Gwent is fun.
Hmm, did you pay attention to quests levels? If you're good with the dodging mechanics you can end up fighting tougher enemies than you're really supposed to and grinding your weapons down when really you should be going after easier quests until you get better gear or skills. Normally people will get fucked up by bosses and realize they need to double back to the quest when they've done some character development but because you can theoretically get through most battles without taking damage if you play conservatively I've been in the situation of ending up in more difficult sections than my gear was really ready to hold up to.
Also if you don't understand the steel vs. silver sword mechanics that can happen a lot. Using more oils and potions and reading the monster spell weaknesses goes a long way to making fights not be like "beat this monster ineffectively with a sword for 20 minutes until it breaks".
W3 really isn't a particularly hard game. Like probably harder than skyrim but not by a ton.

2018-09-14 at 4:54 PM UTC in handsome and well tanned individuals ruin literally everything. Now they're going after programming languages.
- - Employees work at night, get twice as much work done per day
- - Cost less than those overpaid on-shore developers
- - Standardized training, your employees are fungible
- - The sprawling Indian education system and certification programs ensure consistent and high levels of qualification
- - English is an official language of India, we work with English specs
What actually happens:
- - Onshore has to be on a call at 10PM to handhold offshore, come in the next day to find a pile of shit code waiting for review that no one is going to be around to fix until tomorrow night
- - Hire three times the workforce to do half the work, ends up costing more plus your onshore hate you for fucking up their schedules and pretending like they're replicable with cheap low-skill labor
- - No one actually did anything for certs, certification isn't regulated, they just printed some bullshit certificates to fluff up already bullshit resumes
- - It's like highschool 2.0 most of the time where you can bribe your way through, you don't know any of the universities so you have no idea if they're going to the indian equivalent of Harvard or Phoenix
- - There's like two people at the outsourcing firm that speak horribly broken English which are doing a low fidelity translation of your specs. Any and all communications bottleneck at these few points of contact.
