2022-05-11 at 2:28 AM UTC in $600 Moneynigger TokyoOh absurdity-as-attention-grab is definitely something actively explored by ML based advertising. I mean I think humans were doing this before machines got into it, but definitely more interesting when you can try out a thousand variations a second to see what sticks. Kind of a natural progression from the “obviously wrong rage-bait” genre.
I think in the next 20 years we’re tragically going to learn more about the human brain from data mining and successful advertising strategies/funnel analysis than like real neuroscience -

2022-05-10 at 12:42 PM UTC in Determining what OS certain devices useIf it’s a cash register and you can’t interact with it there’s really not much you can do just by looking at a screen.
Although even if you actually have a terminal it’s not always trivial. Linux and most (all?) unicies have uname which is the go-to. Apparently windows has a binary called “systeminfo”, so there’s all the common stuff covered.
In both cases it’s the OS attempting to make itself known to you though. There’s not exactly a precise place you can look at to figure out “what OS is this” or even really what it means to be one OS vs another (the kernel? Many distros run the same kernel but are generally considered different OSs, you can patch the kernel but still generally be considered to be using the same OS)
Idk really, it gets kinda philosophical on what you think an OS is. -

As for making it through this year, I have already accomplished more in the first two months of it than you will in the rest of it.
My annual VA physical came back last week. According to all the tests I am in perfect health other than a slight delay on cardio recovery due to smoking.
But I promise you this, I could still send you to the hospital if your actions warrant it.
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the geriatric water aerobics, and I've been involved in numerous secret walks around the hospital grounds, and I have over 300 confirmed bingo wins. I am trained in walker warfare and I'm the top checkers player in the entire old folks home. You are nothing to me but just another lonely visiting hour. I will wipe you the fuck out with dementia the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of old folks across the USA and your IP is being reported to geek squad right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can retire you in over seven hundred ways, and that's without my dentures. Not only am I extensively trained in untheed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the aerobics class supply room and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo. -

Ignore it and be happy they managed to wrangle as much as they did from the accountants… or push for it despite the raise?
edit: Also, that motherfucker did a worse job, but in way better conditions (he had one employee to manage and a system in place already; I have a dozen, and start from scratch). So… I feel entitled to it.
But also, don't rock the boat…? Don't get greedy? Fuck I don't know
Always ask for more money. Like any situation where it's even remotely reasonable. Performance review, promotion, negotiation, casual chat with your boss. Just say "I want more money". Most the time you won't get it, but the vast majority of managers will absolutely forget you exist if the possibility of more money does come up and you haven't constantly reminded them you want it.
Like a manager doesn't know what the fuck is going on most the time and they're just trying to produce more widgets without a mutiny. If they think you're happy, no matter how good or valuable or underpaid you are, if they don't have something to lose by not giving you money they won't, because they'll just go spend that money on someone is did ask for it. -

Originally posted by Sudo Is there a source for this? I've seen like 50 articles that say 50% of trannys will try to kill themselves and like 15% succeed, never seen anything empirically that says hormone therapy objectively reduces depression.
There is! I’m glad you asked, I was kinda surprised at the finding myself. Here’s the direct link: https://www.jahonline.org/article/S1054-139X(21)00568-1/fulltext which is also the first cite in the document the Fox News article was talking about, of the three I’m guessing jiggs has read none. If you don’t want to read the whole thing here’s the highlight:Use of GAHT was associated with lower odds of recent depression (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = .73, p < .001) and seriously considering suicide (aOR = .74, p < .001) compared to those who wanted GAHT but did not receive it. For youth under age 18, GAHT was associated with lower odds of recent depression (aOR = .61, p < .01) and of a past-year suicide attempt (aOR = .62, p < .05).
There are root causes and systemic issues that cause effeminate teens to think they're a different gender but people don't want to have that conversation.
I think that’s fair although it’s a more nuanced conversation that’s hard to have over the sounds of partisan screeching.
Hot take: if our society didn’t hold to repressive gender roles and you could just do what you wanted you’d get a lot fewer people screaming about pronouns.
Like it’s not a generally acceptable position on the left, but I do think a substantial level of transgenderism stems from a bid to use gender roles to legitimize their character. Like if you’re a dude that doesn’t fit the social image of what a man should be one response you can have is “well I’m a woman”, and the sad state of things is you’ll probably find more social support doing that then being an effeminate cis man.
So I think it’s totally legitimate to ask “is the increase in transgenderism a consequence of a deeper social malady”. But if we’re talking about a clinical setting where you have someone who’s expressed that they want a hormonal therapy, there is decent evidence that giving them that intervention is going to reduce their odds of depression or suicide. So if the goal of the medical field is, you know, reducing human suffering or saving lives then hormonal therapies are absolutely legitimate therapeutic options -

Again trans people kill themselves due to mental illness not due to dangly bits or the approaching of puberty…in what book does it say delaying pubity cures mental illness?
If you want to call being trans a mental illness then cool, it doesn’t offend me.
Can you provide some literature on effective medical interventions that treat what you’re calling mental illness and reduce suicidality in people who identify as trans?
I mean hey, let’s be honest, there are side effects to hormonal treatments. And lots of downsides to surgical interventions. I’m not denying that. I’m just saying, there is pretty decent evidence that these interventions lead to less people killing themselves and there’s not a decent competing treatment.
You just seem more interested in talking about children’s genitals though. Gotta protect the sacred genitals -

You don't treat mental illness by chopping off body parts or taking drugs with the intent to prevent puberty.
Well as mentioned numerous times, hormonal therapies do empirically reduce suicidality in people who identify as trans. Uhh so yeah, you’re just wrong bud, it’s a medical intervention that does in fact treat a condition. -

Well again, go read the document you're calling an "endorsement of child abuse". It discusses and supports with at least one peer reviewed study that hormonal therapies for youths who self-identify as trans reduce suicidality. Maybe you can check my math her but pretty sure _not_ killing yourself also increases your lifespan. -

Originally posted by Jiggaboo_Johnson …impaired how? I said PHYSICAL damage…from what I read this referred to cognitive damage…
Lol, grasping at straws…no cognitive impairment does not necessarily mean there are permanant PHYSICAL changes to the subject.
So I could ask you what exactly you think causes cognitive impairment if not physical changes to the brain but let's just skip that part and jump to why you think the state needs to take a hand in preventing medical interventions that cause "physical" harm (whatever you take that to mean) to children but not interventions that cause cognitive impairment.Chemotherapy is generally seen as a positive procedure, chopping balls off because the kid feels like a Mary…isn't.
What is your definition of positive? If you read the documents that you're claiming demonstrate "Biden endorses child abuse" you'll see there is empirical evidence that the interventions discussed have a negative correlation with depression and suicidality. How is "not being depressed or suicidal" not "positive"?
Also I'm glad you've admitted you did shift goal posts and that your issue here has nothing to do with consent, it has to do with outcomes
