Of those who primarily speak Chinese at home (a majority of the total population with Chinese ancestry) 63% of them don't speak English "very well"
Of people who were born here, the school system and larger culture has failed to assimilate at least 12% on the most basic level of teaching them language
That 12% figure is a lower bound and from just the statistical data could be as high as 100% (although obviously this seems unlikely)
Note also that being able to speak a language is not the same thing as assimilation. Many people who speak English in the US are not assimilated in the American culture. And again, being the one who, you know, actually lives here, my experience is that the cultural divide between the Chinese community and the rest of the city is relatively sharp even among those with English fluency. -
