I don't personally have any feelings toward the Kurdish people (Barzani and pals are rubbish though) but seeing all this happen - how they're more of a loose collection of ethnically-similar people rather than a unified group, and trying to present them as such for political reasons just falls apart spectacularly - is highly amusing. Communist 'Rojava' supporters are on suicide watch. -

UKRAINE - In short, Poroshenko's getting pressured hard. The most (overt) pressure is coming from the hardcore nationalists (Right Sector, Trident, Volunteer Battalions etc.) - I don't like to use the term 'Nazis' because of how it gets thrown around nowadays, but these guys pose with swastikas and photos of Hitler and openly idolize Nazi 'collaborators' as national heroes.
Like I mentioned earlier though, there are sections of the military asking him to step down as well - and US asset (ex-US asset?) Saakashvili (seriously read into what he's been up to in the Ukraine, it's hilarious) has been demanding his resignation too.
Rumour has it the military and political pressure is coming from Julia Timoshenko, a popular, relatively rightwing anti-Russian politician who was hastily shoved off the stage when the US put Porky in charge. She's also likely being bankrolled by Igor Kolomoiski, one of the oligarchs who made his fortune chopping up Soviet public services after the Cold War (if he goes back to Russia Putin's likely to hang him from the Kremlin). Kolomoiski was also instrumental in setting up the 'Volunteer Battalions' and, in all likelihood was involved with the plan to shoot down MH-17.
It's complicated and sources on the ground don't have a lot to say aside from reporting violence on the streets - you'd need to talk to the actual players to get any worthwhile information, and I'd doubt they're interested in talking at the moment.

2017-10-30 at 2:16 AM UTCIRAQ - Basically, the push for an independent Kurdistan is over (more accurately, the push to fragment Iraq using Kurdistan as a chisel is over). This will almost certainly smash the plans for 'Rojava', or the partitioning of Syria as well:
1. It's become abundantly clear that US political support is nowhere near the level that the separatists (and, for that matter, Israel) thought it was. Throughout the Syrian war, the US' support for the SDF was lukewarm at best - they were seemingly trying to balance Turkish interests with their use of the Kurds but ended up alienating both groups.
2. I forgot what I was going to write here
Anyway, the Kurds aren't going to be useful geopolitical tools anymore, not for a while, so the US has fallen back on that old standby - sectarianism.
You can already see the beginning of this next phase with Tillerson's nonsense address telling 'Iranians' to leave Iraq and 'go home'.
The 'Iranians' he's referring to are the Iraqi PMUs, 'Haashd al-Shaabi' - a domestic Iraqi militia who just happen to be majority Shia. There are some Iranian advisors, but no Iranian groups fighting on the side of Iraq inside the country (there are units of Iranian Kurds fighting against the army, though). If you follow this in the news, watch for an uptick in attacks, tensions and sunni-shia violence. -
