not the leader, just a prominent general.

They do have a serious security problem though, same thing happened to 'Motorola' and that other guy with a silly nickname.

Judging by how professionally all those hits have been, it's not the Ukraine security services (who in many cases have actually hindered the 'volunteer battalions' attacking the DPR/LPR) - most likely the CIA or some other group experienced in assassination

Remember the blue eyed dish soap factory owning mayer of slaviansk? Apparently he was the one who ordered the detention of Simon jedienburg the reporter from vice and was kidnapped and killed by dpr forces for the bad press

Seems like they're going ahead in spite of the fact that anyone paying attention knows a staged provocation is likely being prepared, as well as there being a significant possibility for collateral damage to cause escalation and any sort of limited strike being insufficient to stop their pals in Idlib getting crushed.

Of course it could be a bluff and the information strategically leaked to give the impression the threats are serious, but I can't see any purpose that'd serve and with literal psychopaths like Bolton and Pompeo at the helm, sincerity seems far more likely.

They're apparently no longer bothering with the 'chemical weapons' pretext, instead opting to tell Syria 'not to attack the terrorists'. This comes after the Russian MoD presented the US and UN with evidence that 'chemical weapons', largely chlorine gas precursors, had been smuggled into Idlib with the aid of the White Helmets.

    @realDonaldTrump

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!

Trumps turning his back on the Kurds in favor of letting Turkey swoop in. The Syrian Kurds could cross over from kobani and work out an agreement with assad or they can just let Turkey come down and get fuck all

At this point anybody who works with US forces or proxies absolutely deserves whatever Trump does with them

Turkey's not swooping in. As I understand it they're trying to find some middle ground that'll allow for a peaceful resolution while not completely abandoning their proxies - with the economic pressure they're under, they can't go burning bridges with Russia because they NEED BRICS/SCO to survive and the Chinese-led Eurasion integration projects guarantee their future relevance.

We're likely to see the 'FSA' surrender their land and weapons in exchange for representation in government.

I was browsing an 'antifa' subreddit the other day and they kept praising 'Rojava' for being a shining example of functional anarchy, lol.

Even some SDF commanders have been coming to the conclusion that the US doesn't really care about them in the last few months, with a significant number coming out and saying that they'd be open to surrendering to the SAA in exchange for government representation and/or some degree of autonomy.

A lot of activity and data I need to go through. Pro-government sources are being censored across the board, Nikki Haley's accusing Syria, Russia and Iran of (pre-emptively?) targeting schools, hospitals and the like.

It's worth noting that in the Astana format, Russia and Iran want to go ahead with clearing Idlib as the constant attacks launched from there are becoming dangerous but Turkey is trying to block them and find a political solution. The operation has been postponed, but it will not be long before it moves ahead - Turkey will be unable to compel the militants to surrender (the most powerful group in Idlib is HTS, or Al-Nusra, which Turkey supports but does not control) and Syria/Russia/Iran will not allow them to continue to drag the war out.

I don't think the US will abort their threats of strikes even though the 'chemical attacks' they're ostensibly being prepared to 'respond to' have been demonstrated as a sham and a false flag, and given the current level of activity I expect to see them inside a week.

As above, there have been several confirmed airstrikes on rebel positions between Hama and Idlib (Hama is directly south) - it's being described as the beginning of the Idlib operation, but no official word yet.

Russian MOD has reported that a provocation using chlorine gas is in progress

Turkey has moved significant forces (tanks and artillery) to the Syria border. Rebels are claiming they mean to stop the SAA from crushing Idlib but this is highly unlikely, especially given they've been positioned on the Turkish side of the border. It's more plausible that they're reinforcing the border to control the flow of 'refugees' as they've previously claimed their capabilities to handle them have already been saturated.

They could also be ensuring a safe passage for al nusra into Turkey. Ideally I'd imagine they'd want a sleeper cell contingent of terrorists in northern Syria that can spring up and destabilize at any time.

    The game is afoot!

I don't think they can or will, not blatantly anyway. Their future depends too much on co-operation with Russia, Iran and co - even Erdogan's smart enough to realise the New Ottoman Empire's no good if it collapses before it can gain any traction. Keeping terrorist elements on standby and protecting them from the Idlib op is extremely likely though.

    And just now -

Nikki Haley rabbits on about how the Idlib op will be indiscriminate, schools, hospitals etc. will be targeted...

I can't fucking stand her. Every time she opens her mouth I just want to smack her and tell her to go back to the kosher deli and make sandwiches

She didn't seem too bad as SC governor. But she gets a job as an international diplomat and now she thinks she knows everything

I have a hard time telling whether she's actually convinced herself she's some kind of white knight or if she knows she's spouting absolute rubbish and is just in it for the money/power/etc.

She's being groomed as a presidential candidate, keep an eye out for that.

It might be the latter. "They" probably showed up at her door offering her the job after her anti-BDS bill passed. Either that or they put her up to it in the first place

Might as well rename the country "Israel Jr." if that happens
