So far it's unconfirmed - reports of 6 injured, but nothing through official channels.

Some are saying it's either a false report or a false flag to give the US reason to escalate against the SAA, but if that were the case it would be all over western news, with evidence or otherwise.

Conflict is inevitable between the SDF and SAA; the Syrian government has long stated it will not allow a partition of Syrian land, especially given that the majority of the areas the SDF currently occupy aren't even historically or majority Kurdish. On the part of the SDF, they've openly demonstrated their primary purpose is NOT fighting ISIS as they claim; they've broken off a large part of their forces committed to the Raqqa attack to move south toward the rich oilfields near Deir Eizzor, where ISIS has already been defeated by the SAA.

OK, a little more detail on this -

I still haven't seen a statement from the US, but the strike was not intentionally targeting the SDF - it was apparently an ISIS position, deep in ISIS territory according to Russia. It was far away from SDF lines, and given no fighting had been observed in the region for weeks, there was no reason for them to suspect that SDF units were anywhere nearby.

Russia apparently warned US forces in advance (though I don't think they stated how much time was given), implying that US command themselves had no idea that the SDF had deployed there.

    There are two main possibilities:

    1. The Kurds have been taking advantage of the fact that the SAA has been drawing the bulk of ISIS' fighting force south of Raqqa toward Deir Eizzor and have been claiming un- or lightly-protected ISIS-occupied land as their own. It's possible they accidentally penetrated further than intended.

2.The Kurds were negotiating with ISIS. On it's face it seems far-fetched, but consider that the US has been observed airlifting high-ranking ISIS members out of Deir Eizzor without official explanation and only began doing so when it became obvious that they would be crushed by the SAA. They've also returned to the 'Assad must go' rhetoric, and are now fully invested in their 'Rojava' project - they're no longer pursuing the goal of destroying ISIS but refuse to leave.

MYANMAR - I've been doing some background reading on the situation in the region.

Basically, the Buddhist monks in the region are total dicks. Because they can't have their own children, they're known to either kidnap children or pressure parents into giving them up to the monastries. They often terrorise locals into giving them money or food, and have been found to make jedielry and other items out of bone and skin. To other Buddhists, they seem to be similar to what Kali cultists are to regular Hindis - I'm interested in finding out more about their beliefs/customs etc but haven't done any real in-depth reading on it.

They have a long history of violence and intimidation against the locals, Muslim and otherwise. Because the 'Rohingya' are largely Bengal immigrants with few ties to the land, many return home and tell stories, whereas the locals often have little recourse but to endure as they don't have anywhere else to go.

While this has been going on for a long time, popular media only began reporting on issues in 2006/7, directly after the Myanmar government signed an oil/gas pipeline deal with China and many reports attribute the violence and unrest directly to pipeline works. Various protest groups popped up, seemingly very few organically or even domestically - the 'SHWE Gas Movement' was prominently cited by newspapers, but their website is registered to and operated from the Ukraine and (as many NGOs) they still refer to the country as Burma, the colonial British name that has since been changed.

Media attention has recently gotten a massive boost on the back of several prominent NGOs - as mentioned earlier, the 'Rohingya' region of Myanmar is proposed as a major hub for the Chinese-backed BRI initiative which intends to build massive trade routes across Eurasia. Judging by previous 'colour revolutions' and the media's framing the issue as purely Buddhist vs. Muslim, it would seem that they intention is to carve out either a new state or at least an autonomous zone across the coast with a west-friendly government so that the BRI canbe blocked there.

except here, because australia's fucking gay

seriously doubt it's airsoft though - it was apparently on one of the 'jihadi trading post' groups where they're typically legit trading small arms

if its not an airsoft, its the most recent production model (based on the flash hider and side rails)...which i find hard to believe, unless someone paid quadruple or more the MSRP to get it into asscrackistan...in which case them selling it isnt going to bring in shit compared to what they paid for it. those jihadis dont have a lot of money...their entire war is financed on one side via russia and proxys then the other side via the US and proxys.

I know the UK mercs in the region deployed with them, but you're right about the cost - doubt anyone could get away with just 'losing' one.

given the ammo it uses, I doubt the jihadis could feed it anyway; you'd have a mag or two and then it's just a big paperweight

Been busy with a new job, have been keeping track but not posting.

SYRIA - As mentioned before, the SAA crossed the Euphrates and began attacking ISIS positions near the banks, only to find that there were several unreported SDF positions there too. It's now become apparent that when the SAA began their crossing, US-SDF forces upstream opened the dams' floodgates in order to make the crossing more dangerous, but there were no reported injuries or losses of equipment.

The Russian MoD has stated in no uncertain terms that they and the SAA will destroy any SDF units that open fire on them, regardless of whether the US has reported it has SOF soldiers in the area - this is a response to several instances where SDF units opened fire on Russian-Syrian patrols in the 'de-escalation' ceasefire zones and had to be rescued by Spetsnaz.

Israel has reportedly attacked Damascus Airport with drone strikes. No reports on damage yet, but the attackers were engaged by anti-aircraft measures (not reported which, but judging by range it looks like static S-X00s rather than Pantsirs). Unofficial SAA sources say multiple targets were engaged in Syrian airspace and at least one combat drone was brought down over Beit Jann.

    LOL:

HTS encircled and tried to kill a Russian military police unit of 29 near a 'de-confliction' zone at Hama; they held out for an hour, then the Spetsnaz dropped in and killed 300 jihadis

Apparently the static systems weren't fired; two BUK-M2 systems and one PANTSIR sparked off a missile each, all hit targets bringing down three drones in total according to SAA sources.

The Russian MoD has released detailed satellite photos showing:

    A) SDF units being allowed passage through ISIS checkpoints without being engaged
    B) Current-generation Humvees among ISIS vehicles at many bases at the region - indicating either that ISIS has somehow gotten a hold of a large number of current Humvees in good working order, or that US SOF are in fact working directly with ISIS (up until now, there's been little hard evidence even though airdrops and rescues are routinely observed in contested ISIS areas).

the biggest casualty on the jedi side isnt going to be the expense of the lost birds in either shekels or prestige...its going to be the priceless costs theyre paying to the russians in training and after-action reports on what are virtually untested combat systems.

ive been out of the game too long to be able to give any valid assessment but based on the nadir (the little 'crosshair' that is the original pre-cropped images focal point) it looks like satellite imagery. aircraft imagery doesnt as bad 'fuzz' spaces in resolution.

sigh. how times have changed. when i was in the military that shit would have been TS/SCI-codewords and now its just flailing around the internets for anyone to see...and without a god forsaken light-table to cause brain damage & cataracts, at that. altho, that kodak tekpan was the shit...

I honestly can't make the distinction, I'm just going off the statements the MoD made - the vehicles highlighted LOOK like Humvees and Cougars but most people commenting aren't qualified to make that call, even if they were better, closer photos.

There is now a pattern of Russia trying to demonstrate that the USSOF is working directly with ISIS, and it seems they have a substantial amount of evidence they're slowly releasing.

    Further:

Russian MoD has stated that their intelligence on the ground indicates that this attack was initiated by USSOF controlling an Al-Nusra unit, though I haven't seen which one(s) were reportedly involved. The goal was apparently to take the 30 or so Russian MPs hostage and use them as leverage to force the SAA to halt their advance.

Over the course of the next 24 hours, the counterattack has reportedly killed ~850 fighters.

UPDATE: The group involved in the fighting was the East Turkistan Islamic Party, a group tied to Islamic separatists in Turkey and China
