I'm not sure the exact details behind the reaction mechanism with the opiate one
I know for ephedrine brewing the workup from L-PAC "broth" is/was an issue with having it be a viable method. Last I heard it's *possible* to reductive amination the broth directly, I can't imagine the gunk mess from doing so, but apparently in that mess you have EPHEDRINE HCL
and if you isolate the L-PAC and reduce that directly you get higher yields (recycling the benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde was part of that too)
I'm not sure if the opiate brewing method is making something can be reduced to morphine easily or producing morphine directly but I would imagine it's similar to the L-pAC situation involving the workup of alkaloids from a "broth" there is almost ZERO underground literature about this, the l-pac stuff is mostly from the early 2000's. It wouldn't be very difficult though just a dual solvent extraction or whatever
The best I have found over the years is the occasional patent where they outline workups, it's a pretty dark unknown art. For all anyone knows there's a lab churning out kilos of REAL homebrew heroin clean with no trace of where it came from, but if that were true there wouldn't be such a strong market for fentanyl
so I don't think it's very widespread in DA UNDERGROUND in any capacity, never heard of a "opiate brewing" lab getting busted, I would be shocked to see such news if they were doing it on any real scale, it's unheard of as far as I know. -

I heard about people getting custom made LSA/Ephedrine yeasts made in indian biolabs like a decade ago so i'm sure someone has it figured out by now

It's probably the ONLY opiate being "manufactured" in North America at least unless you count big legal pharma, but a lot of that is being brewed in Indian and chinese labs now it seems because Americans always bitch about how there is a shortage of everything always.
