How old is old?? I know a few people in their 20's that don't know shit about computers. Try using a few keyboard shortcuts in front of a coworker or two and they will all think you are MR Robot or some shit.

Even a mostly empty tank isn't likely to explode because for gasoline vapour (or most any flammable substance that doesn't carry its own oxidzer) to explode it needs to be mixed with oxygen (or another oxidizer) in a proportion that falls within its explosive limits (something like 2-10% for gasoline in air IIRC). Normally a car's fuel tank won't have much air in it even when nearly empty, so if it's ruptured and ignited in a crash at most you'll get a small fireball with very little blast overpressure.
This why I never believed the explanation for TWA flight 800. Every car with an electric fuel pump in the tank is producing sparks ALL the time.
