Ok, while I have you here Ghost, I have a couple quick chemistry questions (not about cocaine ==> crack)...

I plan on extracting ephedrine from some ephedrine HCl pills...

The instructions I'm looking at mention a need for methanol (among other things, of course).

Where exactly does one find straight up methanol?

Yeah, I've come to notice that so many seemingly controversial chemicals can be quite easily acquired on the clear net.

Although, every day I wonder if I'm getting added to some kind of watch list.

    Can confirm.

Every other drug is merely a substitute at this point.

That being said, though, I 100% do not regret quitting opiates when I did.

It might seem a tad paradoxical, but one can truly love something while also abstaining from it entirely.

    Maybe conscience is a substance.

I mean, if it's an evolved trait, a particular configuration of neural networking is essentially a physical substrate for a conscience.

A psychopath, by definition, is one who is missing this particular substrate.

Therefore, one could argue that conscience, even morality, is a physical thing.

But then of course this opens up the pandora's box of the mind-body problem.

Is that which is represented by that substrate a physical thing (i.e. does the brain === the mind?), or does it lie in some intangible dimension, much like the mind is said to exist in?

But, no. I shall comment on the topic at hand when you all tire of each other's conversation.

Just thought I'd let you know I was here reading and fixing a couple of mistakes for ease of reading?

    Would you rather I didn't?

    No problem.

Read my most recent post in this thread.

Your intent can easily be construed as sheer rudeness.

Correcting people's spelling mistakes and grammar takes some finesse if you want to avoid coming off as a pompous, pedantic ass.

    Just sayin'.

I also just realized that I may have been reacting too harshly if your intent is merely to educate and not to agitate.

If it's the former, I apologize for my harsh tone.

If it's the latter, fuck you.

Care to offer your own position on the topic at hand?

Or are you just going to sit there and correct everybody's typos and grammar mistakes?

You know, machines are fully capable of doing that.

Zanick, I just knew you'd join the party in this thread.

This thread has the potential to be an incredibly interesting discourse.

But then again, what is NIS's overall user-pool.

Shitposting might just be par for the course.

Originally posted by Zanick Damn, I didn't think minors would delve far into Heidegger like that, he's a beast of a philosopher and a whole semester with him is a lot. I myself had the opportunity to spend a semester doing a close reading of B&T about a year ago; what a read it was! At first, I thought he was just an incomprehensible Nazi, but by the time I was done, I wanted to spend another semester digging through his work independently.

Well, I was a precocious student, so I took a lot of upper-level classes even though I didn't necessarily have to.

The label of incomprehensible Nazi is not an uncommon one for him. The guy was a tad bonkers, to say the least, but he really had some unique ways of seeing the world (or, should I say, Being-in-the-world as such).

Certainly worth the time to give his ideas a chance.

You don't necessarily have to like his politics to find beauty in his philosophy.

You're exactly right on both counts.

It is a very marketable skill.

And the systematic/logical/rational thinking you use in philosophy is excellent preparation for learning programming.

Ok, there are two different things at play here:

    1. A psychological conscience.
    2. Morality.

A psychological conscience is the result of millions of years of evolution. Altruism has evolved in humans in order to create cohesive bonds built on reciprocative acts of goodness.

Now, when it comes to an objective source of morality, that is a much thornier issue.

One could argue that whatever nature gave us as a moral compass (i.e. a psychological conscience) should define morality, and that's that.

But of course, centuries of debate have arose surrounding such definitions of objective morality, or even if there can ever be such a thing.

I have collected my Unemployment for several months during harder times. but only twice in my entire life. Once in my 40s and once in my 20s.

I tried to get Social Security benefits to help out but they said I didn't qualify for such and such year, when I knew I worked those years. (A solid 5 out of 10 years is required of being fully employed before getting either SSI or SSD?).. this is related to the blacklisting.. because oddly it was during a time when I believe Jeff (Who then had suggested to go to a temp service in Walnut Creek called Madsen Personnel which I appreciated him for.. then turned into, I'v helped you in the past. If you don't stop bothering me.. I will make sure you never ever work again" and me replying something like "Oh.. like in Hollywood"

I see things that relate. Sure I shouldn't of been a smart ass to him, but I didn't like his threat. it's a huge fucking conflict of interest and though it may seem funny to say this, it is kind of a form of trade violations. it somehow falls into this. Not specifically "Inside Trading" but "Anti-Trust" law.

Of course I'm just an average Joe.. and Jeff is clearly more powerful than the neighborhood computer nerd-club president.

So I found a paystub for the month of a year the lady at the SS department stated I didn't work that year.

proved her wrong. never heard back about it. didn't go back to trying to collect either form of SocSec

That's... quite a detailed story, and yet I read every word.

I'd try pushing even harder with that bit of evidence you managed to find. Forward the paystub to someone at a higher level of command. You never know...

Everybody has a different path, and I guess it makes sense for a lot of people to go to school with the expectation of a related career, but I doubt we've ever been that sort of people.

Philosophy is an absolute blast. If I ever do end up going back and going to grad school, it will likely be in a philosophy field, probably philosophy of mind.

Or maybe something along the lines of Heidegger's work. I took a class focusing on Heidegger's Being and Time and holy fuck did that course ever fuck me up.

And bruh, if you ever want any advice on how to effectively teach yourself to program, come to me. I learned so much through sheer trial and error.

My first bit of advice that I always give anyone setting out to learn programming themselves, is start with Python. It is as close to executable pseudocode as you can get, and yet it has all the bells and whistles.

That being said, another very useful learning technique is to do the complete opposite (as well as, not instead of, the above), and to play around in assembly / machine language. It really forces you to understand how all the higher-level programming languages (like Python) are ultimately translated into hardware-understandable code.
