I want to give you the benefit of the doubt on this.
But it feels like I'm about to get sucked into some kind of huge dramatic feud.
Admittedly, though, I do not have a summary of all the reasons Lanny has given for bans (although, with my data collecting project I started some weeks ago, it wouldn't be too much extra code to add a search for ban info* that I could collate).
* Lanny, again, when I scrape this site for data, I always abide by a 1 request per second limit, and I make sure that it won't be some endlessly recursive thing, and will usually only result in a few thousand requests. -

It just seems surreal to me that any other website could really be in sync with Totse/Zoklet/NIS tradition.
But then again, there is 4chan.
The only difference there is that the posting is anonymous.
Other than that, though, 4chan isn't much different from us here. -

I have forked the repo locally and am playing around in it.
I have tons of experience in Python, and in particular, Flask, as a web framework.
Django has a few more bells and whistles though that I still need to figure out.
Also, I'm kinda new to contributing to team/group/work repositories (and not just my own private ones), so I've gotta build up some of the Pull/Merge Request courage. -

There is a point of diminishing returns on the activity of "learning."
I almost want to say that our brains have limited RAM as an analogy.
Actually, that doesn't seem too unreasonable of an analogy.
They could probably try to teach us calculus by the time we reach kindergarten, but how effective would that be?
What alternative is there to the current educational system?
Or is the question moot, since we'll be plugging our brains into computers in no time at all, and thus be permanently connected to any and all knowledge and computational resources.
It would definitely make a lot of game shows (like Jeopardy and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?) quite boring. -

Ok, my man, the slippery slope being referred to is very real, and, although I like you, of course, there has been at least one thread made requesting YOUR banning...
So, I would really rethink the whole idea of banning anyone because they are unpopular.
Lanny stays objective, and that's what makes NIS a part of the Totse/Zoklet family of Internet forums.
It's like the company mission statement, basically. The company culture - what separates us from most other discussion forums - is the objectivity exercised in moderating the place.
There, of course, are rules, and that's 100% necessary, but it's like a minarchic / libertarian kinda thing here, and, despite what your personal politics might be, that is what works perfectly for the Totse/Zoklet/NIS tradition. -

He did make one thread though that got locked.

Basically, he had heard that some people were administering vodka intranasally.
I had never heard of such a thing, personally, as it sounds painful and pointless, but he claimed to have heard that some people were trying it.
So he made a thread (this is back in 2005, for the record, but I remember it like it was yesterday), entitled: "Snorting Vodka?", and the post body content was simply: "New fad?"
It did kinda seem like a troll thread, so I get why it got locked...
But it was something he had genuinely heard of people doing at the time. -

I had ONE, ONE real-life friend I introduced to Totse. He posted for a few days, but, sadly, he OD'd only a few weeks later.
His username was: 3XP3RIM3NT4L or some variation on that.
So, technically that is another Totsean lost to drug overdose.
He was an awesome guy, and there's a reason I introduced him, and only him, throughout my entire life, to Totse. I had tons of friends IRL, and I kept Totse as a secret haven away from them for ever.
But I introduced that one friend.
R.I.P. to all the fallen Totseans. -
