It definitely sparked an interest in me towards learning more about Europe's history. Interestingly, it led me to discover that apparently the Vikings invaded Scotland in ~800 AD, which results in a whole lot of Scandinavian/Norse influence.
Also, I discovered that, through a very tiny French Canadian line of heritage (via a great-great-grandfather or something like that), I can trace my family history (with well-documented records) going back 11 generations to when France was settling here in the ~1600's. Also, through that same line, I'm apparently 11th cousins to Madonna (the pop singer). -

I legit don't understand why anyone would want to remain ignorant of something as fascinating as where they came from.
Like I said above, I put no stock in my "ethnic heritage," because I agree with HTS that some people put way too much importance onto their ethnic heritage to compensate for any personal achievements (e.g.: pretty much the entire white nationalist movement), but it seems willfully ignorant to just ignore something as important as your ancestral origins simply because it costs a few bucks. It's like $100. That's the cost of a night of partying, or a couple video games (maybe? I have no idea what games cost these days since I rarely play any), etc. -

You ever hear this? I've heard many MORE say they were Irish and not act like X or Y, but I've never seen race as an excuse for one's own behavior except for this.
I have not experienced this exactly, but, oddly enough, I have a Polish friend who would do this exact same thing (just swap Polish for Irish). I think another Polish friend would say the same kind of thing, actually.
Also, I think I've heard of some Italians doing the same. -
