The community service place- I couldnt have asked for a cooler place to work. That said, having to PAY to do it after a 10 hour work day, having to PAY $20 each night for an uber there and back....only getting 3 months to do that many fucking hours on a full time work schedule.... Getting the flu because i was having to go put of way way to do community service, and then failing to finish it and getting rolled uyp by th enarcotics police.... all of that was dogshit.
But yeah...mopping and pouring beers was way preferable to picking up trash or something. -

I work at UPS. And the community service was at a "Moose Lodge" like a Shriner's Club or something, or a Masonic lodge. They do a lot of volunteer work and raising money for charity. But in my case, that was the only thing available to do during my free hours, and it just so happened that it was essentially a bar. Just a big room with a legit bar, stools, bottles, beer on tap, jukebox. Then an auditorium for presentations, a bathroom, and a smoking room with a bunch of sofas and glass windows, a screen door. -

I have no fucking clue. I mean its gonna be at least a couple weeks or more before anything is even close to ready, if we actually do do this. And the logistics need to be figured out of where ts going to take place...whether itll be a live, webcams tabletop like experience or...... I mean in my head, playing it through the forum seemed like a good idea, what with time zone differences and stuff, but part of the excitement of tabletop gaming (as I understand it, since ive only ever participated in one game myself, YEARS ago) is the immediacy, The planning and quick decision making.
I always have spurts of ideas, but idk how id be when it comes to creating an entire world...and i dont know how detailed it needs to be to be serviceable and provide realism. But then again if you take too much time on one area, another probably suffers. |
Watched some tutorials on Roll20 last night. Some of it seems a little over my head. Like I said- it might not even happen, but its worth brainstorming. Right now Im just working on the opening "scene" as it were (even if its probably sort of an RPG cliche). But im deciding how much side into to build into that map, any secret stuff, any branching maps or anything....I just dont know how that stuff even fits in with the systems as they stand.
And theres so much stuff to take into account; What is the climate? What do they eat? What kind of economic system is in place? What is the political landscape like? Is anyone at war? How diverse is this land? Are there different racial/species groups in close proximity to one another? How are their relations? Is there a god or pantheon of gods that locals worship? How does that effect everyday life? Is this a low fantasy setting? High fantasy? If the latter, how to certain people react to magic/magicians/technology......?
Just SO much stuff.

As I understood it, a lot of it is the DM's reacton on the fly. But if we do it through the forums, itll be a lot slower and easier for a DM to react and counter the players, come up with dialogue, etc. I mean as with most things I imagine for the boards, itll probably never happen, but its a fun thought. -

You know how fucking exhausting it is to work from 10am-8pm and then have to pay for a $10 uber to work another 5 hours cleaning up after a bunch of drunks, and then pay for another $10 uber home? And then your uber driver gives you the flu so youre bedridden for a month and then they put a warrant out on you for not finishing your hours?

Some of my liberal friends wanted to start playing with the Pathfinder rulkeset, which seems to allow for a a lot more freedom, but a lot more complicated too. And apparently you have to plan around stuff like magic and science and tech so stuff doesn't become so powerful that it breaks the game.
Anyway, if you guys are interested, highly reccommend getting in the mood with HarmonQuest and Critical Roll on Youtubes. -

I think you can find a lot of those pre-written adventure books online now. After that, you just need to plan up some maps, sprinkle in some appropriately levelled enemies from the bestiary, etc. Could be fun. -
