I'm a workaholic. I feel out of touch with reality when I'm not working. When I'm at my job, my problems are distant, I have a role in society, I fit into the big picture. Things have consequences and I have control. When I'm not there I lose my sense of agency and feel nonproductive, my time management and interpersonal skills disappear and my stress returns. I watched my grandmother die this past week and if I'm on the clock, I'm joking and working like it didn't happen but when I'm off I hit the bottle to ruminate. It's like a completely different person seizes my actions when I clock in. Maybe I'm just abnormal in my ability to compartmentalize.

It's an interesting probe into the problem of authority. The philosopher king, as described by Plato's dialogues, is a supremely wise individual who is (presumably) selected or groomed for his role. A moral being with more information and access to higher-minded ideals should be the most capable in making a decision that effects others, right? We don't know, we're meant to trust that they do, and that's the conundrum with this concept of leadership. It's not like the progressive, righteous shift comes along and the whole world jumps on the boat. Leaders have to defend their choices against an onslaught of naysayers and it gets ugly.

To me this is possibly Gyllenhaal at his best, I hope he gets better from here because I was impressed with his performance - and his alone. It felt clumsy at times in its criticism, but in general I think it was artfully executed and worthy of introspection.

I have bugs in my ears

A month ago I woke up to a buzzing and crawling noise in my ear, it didn't come out. Every now and then I'll hold a flashlight up to my ear to lead it away from my brain but it just moves a bit and remains comfortable. Right now I can feel it in my other ear. My room is so infested, my ear canals bear host to insectoid whose and their brood.

On the real, call it the liberal media but to me all these fags are cookie-cutter conservatives who pander to the religious right from their podiums and I can't tell one from another. Is there anybody who's erected a site comparing and contrasting their platforms in a pleasing graphic layout because I'm on a smartphone and don't want any bullshit or excess browser tabs I just want to be informed about the idiots clambering for 2016 like Cruz and Walker and Carson even if they are in Trump's shadow and would lose to Hillary

Just because it'd be a shock to an economy doesn't mean it isn't the right direction. It's not as though making hiring more expensive immediately knocks down the possibility of increasing a minimum, we'd probably have to establish a line at which an otherwise prospering business just isn't going to be able to sustain those people and compensate them with a subsidy until the increase is more successfully integrated with our system. Those businesses will see more money, a large subset of our population which had little buying power before the raising would be able to go out to restaurants for dinner, they'll go to movies and take vacations.

Israel's leadership is dirty, the Arabs have rampant terror cults. Neither is really a good thing, but the people are by and large victims of US imperialism. It's all sort of fucked. Even the sort of okay countries don't want to be involved because they assume we'll swoop in to protect our investments. What's even sadder is that I think we have a better handle on international terrorism than we do in preventing the domestic variety.
