did you call her back OP

I get that you're not happy with how things turned out and that's just my point - this whole thread is basically proof that right now your happiness is contingent upon your fulfillment and success. You did well in your undergrad, now just bury yourself with more loans instead of dirt.

Dude, if you could die now you can just as easily commit to a bunch of loans towards a more advanced degree. If that doesn't work out it's not like the suicide option has gone anywhere.

Make your suffering mean something and volunteer for the Crisis Hotline in your county. I guarantee you'll find some purpose in the work and that they need all the help they can get.

I think most healthy adults think about suicide at least once a day, right? If you're old enough that you should've grown out of all these behaviors by now and you haven't, it's probably not normal. I know the feeling of impending disaster, just around the corner - it's called anxiety. It took me a long time to admit it, but I carry a lot of it with me throughout my day and usually in places it doesn't belong, where it effects me despite my better judgment. Lanny's right, you need a more effective way of looking at your past, and you'll need a new perspective on what you're doing right now to keep that going. Try seeing a therapist experienced in CBT, it's really helpful for me.

Sorry man, but judging by her art presentation, socially conscious attire and adequate grooming I'd say she's also more successful, too. This bitch does it all.

Some dick neighbor cut the long leash outside my girl's house that she uses to tether her dog for fetch, and now they block her driveway when I'm coming over because they're haters. I have their license plate number, it wouldn't be hard to report their car stolen next time they vacation out-of-state. For bonus points, I'd claim their baby in the car seat is a kidnapped passenger.

    Also OP who are you?

When my first girlfriend dumped me I wanted to leave the US and join a Tibetan ashram. I'd found a flight two weeks out with an itinerary that stopped once in Denver before departing for China, and looked into booking a tour with a group that ventured close enough to the border that sly students and activists have been known to slip across into their embargoed neighbor. I even had chosen the temple, though all I remember now is that it was in a deep valley in a jungly part of the country, and they weren't known to accept strangers as monks who didn't speak the language unless they did a lot of menial work for a few years.

What I've observed is the tendency for those interested in the occult to generate explanation and to seek means of translating their intentions into external validation, when the idea of magic is really based upon internal gestures. I think this will become increasingly apparent through time in a way that parallels technological advancement and by no coincidence. The final frontier is the mind, and science will take us deeper in if we can maturely choose to emphasize the subjective.

That's a good set of ideas, Zanick! Do you have an IRA or multiple IRAs yet?

Every weekend for the last ten months I've told myself I'm going to set one up. For some reason I just can't find the time, part of me just doesn't care enough. My student income is well above minimum wage, but still low enough that I can't invest seriously and I really don't know that I need to prioritize fluidity in my finances outside of matched 401k.

How do you find the time to research and commit to these things while working? I can't seem to make it work.

I made a sex tape with OP's mom back in 1997 that got 98% on rotten tomatoes

One technique I've used successfully begins with writing it all down and using it to develop an effective disciplined budget. When you can account for your income and expenditures, you can break down each individual outgoing purchase. Think of your shopping list, but with prices added. Now look for frivolous items which can be eliminated, and then anywhere you can downgrade from brand name to generic, purchase in bulk, etc.

Once you have a total for that list, be it grocery or entertainment or professional expenses or clothing, round it off after accounting for taxation, and put that amount of cash in a dedicated envelope that will be used for nothing else. Put relevant coupons inside with that money, because once that envelope is empty you're done spending in that area for the week/month/whatever increment of time you've allotted.

Surplus is good, better when put into a strong APR savings account. I use https://www.smartypig.com/ because it lets me set a savings goal and the amount which is withdrawn from my primary account, as well as how often that transfer takes place, and they make it a bitch to collect my savings before that goal is met.

Individuals, like cities, states and nations, don't simply pool all of their money willy-nilly, it gets distributed according to purpose and ranked by importance. If this system is unmanageable with appropriate effort, overspending isn't your biggest issue.

And when I was maybe 15 my boy scout troop went to New Mexico for a backpacking trip in the mountains and my father was a leading chaperone for the trip. The weather there was usually perfect or blearing heat, but one day we had an unpredictable hailstorm. The temperature dropped low and there were golf ball sized pieces of ice raining down on us. Then it turned to water as the storm cloud passed overhead, and buckets rolled downhill as we sought higher ground to set up a temporary shelter. The dirt paths were slick and muddy and we were desperate to get out of the slippery mess, so we made our way through the brush up the side of a smaller peak. Maybe 100 yards up, I got a foothold that was sturdy enough and I saw my dad slip just feet beneath me. The fall was steep and he wouldn't have recovered, he would've stumbled over trees and sunk all the way down if I hadn't grabbed his wrist just before he fell. He could've hit his head or worse, and it made me realize he was getting old and I was lucky I didn't lose him this time, because I hadn't been paying attention for years when I should've. It's really embarrassing actually, he tells that story every chance he gets and he's really proud, but for me it was just scary and miserable.

I've saved lots of squirrels and birds from my dog in my childhood, all of them died shortly thereafter of their injuries.

I was linked here by my the thanks in my inbox and spent ten minutes trying to infer what substance my post was responding to before seeing the title, what the fuck is wrong in my head

I think the whole point is to have both. We want to live in the mundane and access the extraordinary through technology. It's vicarious and within our control--we can adjust and abort as needed for our circumstances, and that makes it a safe way to explore possibilities that might not be immediately available.

I've heard Anki is a godsend for med students. Is it easy to navigate? I don't want to be dealing with a cumbersome software, easy access is a selling point to for my needs.

Well it can replace syrup as a low sugar alternative for breakfast items like pancakes, waffles, crepes, etc. and it can be a substitute for hollandaise sauce on a zesty omelette. If it's for dinner you can drizzle it over a bowl of macaroni and cheese and it surprisingly behaves in much the way you might expect of a viscous, fat free vinaigrette while tasting almost exactly like the Newman's Own you get at the store. If you're making a more exotic meal it goes nicely as an option if left on the side of the california rolls, next to the wasabi and candied ginger.
