But then another new employee gets the same treatment a few years later, and speaks out and presses charges instead of taking the offer. Then numerous employees speak out about having gotten the shit beat out of them by the same boss over all these years, but all took bribes to stay quiet.
Yeah, it was not your fault that you (and all other employees) got the shit beat out of you for no reason, but by taking the bribe and not saying anything, you are allowing the boss to get away with it. If you had not taken the bribe and instead spoke up about it, the abuse could've stopped with you.
There are a few words that you're forgetting that answer some of your questions: witness intimidation, and out-of-court-settlement. You're a recently traumatized woman, and your abuser's lawyer comes and tells you that your face and name will be dragged through the mud in a costly and harmful public trial unless you accept a one-time offer of more than a million dollars. I'm sure the language was much harsher than that. Do you really think these victims were whores? They were made to believe that they had to protect themselves. Cosby set up a business model for his predation. -

I was briefly captivated by the poetic notion that some structures are so completely derelict as to appear that they've perhaps sprung in that state from nature, but yeah, whether it's a cobweb or low-income housing, I know somebody had to build it in order for it to be abandoned.

I've had some nice breakthrough experiences, but I generally like to make that into more of a ritual.
