They have one of those on post near market. I've never been in. People are usually outside gawking at it. I'm not really sure what the appeal is supposed to be. Shop keeps are cheap, humans still stock the shelves, installing some gay app seems like a lot more work than like just going to a store.

I feel like that's just going to encourage people to make a bunch of dumb spammy posts in order to make a thread. Is new posters making too many threads really an issue? There are already controls on how many posts new posters can make in a 24 hour period.

Yeah, working on a project of your own invention where you don't have a step-by-step guide to your end goal is definitely an important part of learning. It teaches a core skill in "google my problem and see how this related but different problem is relevant to me". Google-fu is famously the backbone of many surprisingly successful programmer's careers. One would hope to grow out of the "search the internet for something similar and adapt it" methodology of programming at some point and afford more creative modes of problem solving but empirically this isn't actually necessary for professional success.

I'm happy to answer programming related questions at any point. It'll be a bit before you should worry about career related stuff, but I'm happy to throw in my two cents then. While I think for-profit education is a pretty sketchy industry I can't say I know anything damning about udacity in particular. It does seem like a lot of people do a lot better with the more structured course setup. If you're interested in free introductory resources I'm happy to recommend some.

We seriously don't have the concept of doing without things like fridges in the west any more.
I mean people do it, but it's a good example of poor tax. If you don't own a working refrigerator you have to go shopping like every other day or something, or just eat out, both of which are more expensive than buying and maintaining a fridge over the span of time you're going to own it, the fridge just requires more upfront capital which poor people don't have, so they end up paying more than people with a little more money.
