Fat whores like Sarah Jamie Lewis end up in my timeline anyway, because the people i follow "like" and "retweet" her bullshit. So then i mute them, and say "Boy wouldn't it be great if we could have politics free tech and infosec twitter for today?" and i get banned for hate speech.

lol, yeah, when used to follow some tech people on twitter I got a lot of that too. It's a horrifying network effect. Like I followed Jacob Moss who would always retweet Shanley Kane and then I unfollowed him but then Holovaty would retweet his shit so I unfollowed him but then someone else would retween the same shit thrice removed.

Then I went through a phase of following the most absurd "twitter feminists" I could because it was like a circus, endlessly entertaining. But gradually I realized these people were serious and as evidenced by god knows how many episodes carefully documented in feministwiki that insanity was getting a foothold in the real world. Obsessing over it is a pathology though, critique just feeds the idea that feminism (like, the not batshit insane kind) is some kind of underdog ideology that's being pressured by the incumbent paradigm, and quietly watching is infuriating, like watching a snake kill your pet rabbit or some shit. I deleted my account, there's nothing productive to be done about it, all you can do it ignore the shitshow and wait for it to blow over. On the upside if the solipsistic internet beggars do somehow become the prevailing social order they're still going to need someone to keep the e-begging servers up and they sure don't have any measure of actual technical skill in-house.

Wow, I've really been slacking here. I hope you'll accept this new forum as a metaphorical olive branch between me and the porn sharing community of the site.

You misunderstand occam's razor entirely (although to be fair I think most people who use the term don't know what it actually is). It's not "count up theory 1's assumptions and then count theory 2's assumptions and the lower number wins". If that were the case I could say "Lanny holds the highest office in the US government, the highest office in the US government is the presidency, QED Lanny is the president" and this line of reasoning contains exactly one assumption. It does not, however, find justification under occam's razor.

Evolution depends on literally thousands, if not millions, of different premises, all of which would have to be correct to produce the desired outcome.

Evolution depends on exactly zero premises in the standard scientific framework. We can observe evolution in lifeforms in human scales of time. Antibiotic resistance is a form a evolution. We can induce evolution in many simple life forms and observe it happening. Occam's razor has nothing to say about simple observations, it deals in explanations.

Now if you want to talk about evolution from a common ancestor as a candidate explanation for observable biological speciation then we do need some assumptions, like that a process that's observable in life today was historically in force and that homology signals common ancestry (this is really the point you should be attacking but your scientific literacy is too poor to allow you to). In any case, while there may be numerically a few (a few, not thousands or millions) more assumptions involved the total "assumptiveness" of them is quite a bit less than your begging the question on an intelligent creator

P.S. The only reason I'm responding to you is I took an adderall and am now compelled to engage in internet debates with idiots, even though I know the exact and total futility of the activity.

Yeah, it was a happy day when the forum was in good enough shape that we could get rid of cloudflare. Deliberately MitM'ing the users always made me uncomfortable and their commitment to freedom of speech is shaky at very best. I almost got kicked off a different forum on the grounds that I was a neo nazi when I said CF's handling of the daily stormer incident was wrong.

The society is the illness, the contents of the DSM are just symptom clusters. Save for the exceptional case of congenital neurological abnormality it is ourselves which drives us mad. That's why I'm moving to the woods and starting a bombing campaign against every person who heads a social organization with more than 50 people in it including administrators in every major religion, politicians of every level, and especially girl/boyscout leaders. In tandem with my lengthy manifesto this is going to change the world and tople industrialized society.

WHY DO NERDS LIVE IN A MESS?

When most of what commands your attention (hobbies, entertainment, work) is constantly in your home it probably takes more willpower to do housework. Also not brining girls home reduces incentive to clean. Also the culture encourages it to a degree

    WHY ARE NERDS VIRGINS?

Obsessive hobbies and competing demands for time/attention (becoming a "nerd" is large time investment) means romance sometimes takes a backseat. The culture also tends to attract the socially inept.

I'm not actually sold on the idea there's any particularly strong "nerd"/soylent correlation though, around here it's considered more of a hipster thing, which is a distinct group from "nerds" although there's definitely overlap.

Where are you getting this stat from? I'm not particularly saying it's wrong (although it does seem a bit high) but there are a lot of methodological issues in figuring out exactly how many computers running an OS. Dynamic IPs make actual box counts from website usage logs almost meaningless, lifespan estimation is almost meaningless in the developing world, everyone assumes <stats aggregator website that has numbers I like> somehow magically has unbiased usage logs when logging methodologies are almost never disclosed or abysmal when they are.

Not that it really matters though, even if usage of insecure technology is pervasive supporting it in SSL (a technology with the express and singular purposes of security) is meaningless.

You'll note I'm actually defending HDL's setup here. The main reason the Qualys doesn't consider the NiS SSL "A" grade (whatever that's supposed to mean) is because I chose to support older suites on the premise that modern browsers will never prefer weaker ones and in the situation where no "strong" suite is available it's better to permit a "weak" but unbroken suite than deny service. It's perfectly reasonable, however, to make the opposite decision as HDL has (well I mean cloud flare made that decision for him but w/e).

Anyway, i feel kind of empty. Sitting here writing this all i can feel is a mild sense of boredom and cold detachment from whatever is going on in my life. When i set a goal, and attain it, which is not that often because i have a tendency to set pretty silly goals for myself. But if i do attain it, i just feel more stressed, since this is now the standard that must be adhered to. Believe it or not some people think i'm pretty great at certain things. And somehow this makes me a great person in their eyes. But every time anyone praises me for anything i just feel fake. I got lucky somehow, but i haven't the heart to tell these people that. You be glad for me, i'll just go on pretending and suffer in silence i guess. But sometimes i don't want to pretend, so i avoid things, but i can't avoid them for long because i don't want to disappoint anyone. Which in turn gives me more stress and makes me want to avoid things even more.

Actually, i should just stop giving a shit, but somewhere inside me i can't. Because i just can't let go of the hope that somehow these people might be right after all.

Hey, i stopped feeling bored. Now i just feel sad…

Maybe try doing things you think are intrinsically worthwhile instead of looking for validation in the view of others? What would you want to do with you were on a deserted island or some shit?

Cell phones. They're the invention that decoupled digital access from digital authoring tools. People like to talk about the democratic effects of digital publishing, but even if we ignore the effective monopoly and willingness to use it to suppress unpopular opinions we see in the modern landscape, it means nothing to be able to publish if you're a wholly passive consumer. We should destroy every personal computing device that doesn't have a keyboard attached to it and a user-accessible compiler
