Clearly not true. Religious minorities and conscientious objectors are obvious examples of people with moral principles contrary to the "will of the people"All executive power is derived from the will of the people. Unless you want to push some kind of divine command theory or objective morality, I don't see how you can argue against the dominance of the will of the people being the ultimate basis of our society, and everything else in between the will of the people and its execution, as essentially being a vestige of the time when they were a systematic necessity. My hope would be only that reason and humanity wins out.
No command theory required at all. Act utilitarians can easily deny a "consent of the governed" framework of rule on by making the case that it's not an optimal means of securing the well being on the citizenry, which it's quite obviously not. -
2018-03-14 at 3:28 AM UTC in Issue313 TSTM'd?Yes spectral, you've complained about just about everything that's ever happened on this site and many things that haven't to boot.
That doesn't change the fact that you're a liar -

Ok, here's the usertitle scheme setup that won't ever be changed. It's an immutable law of the forum from today until the end of days. Rest assured, nothing will cause me to stray from this well defined policy of ustertitle procedure:

Originally posted by Malice I'm thinking about changing majors and trying to get into investment banking. I really just want more money, and my divergent thinking and other autistic powers could make me a force to be reckoned with. You're in the financial sector, Lanny, what's your opinion on this?
To be honest, computer programming for the financial sector seems like pretty unfulfilling, tedious, monotonous, soul crushing work; at least when it goes on for years, let alone decades.
I'm also planning on claiming I'm transgender to increase my chances of getting into a good college. I'll go as far as to cross dress, wearing makeup and a wig, as well as lying to a therapist/psychologist if I have to. After I get in I'll just drop the act. "Oh, it turns out I may not have been transgender after all! I may simply be gender fluid and I'm currently going through a masculine phase."
If you were good at it you'd make more money than programming but you won't be good at it since it requires people skills. Even the most stereotypical rainman fund manager needed to put on a suit and be not-autistic for years to get started. There are many fields that will tolerate your social inability on a good day, computer science is one, investment banking is not.
Seeing as you probably haven't taken anything but GE courses at this point I'd suggest suspending judgement on what is and isn't fulfilling. -

The most interesting thing to me is using the same memory for the GPU and CPU. Like one of the first things you learn about modern GPUs when you start into graphics programs is that GPU memory is across a bus, that it's expensive to communicate with, and consequently you do it infrequently and in small volume. Like that's a big part of loading screens, you take all those textures and static geometry from main memory (or disk) and schlep it over to the GPU and don't touch it again. If you need to change it, you try to figure out a way to do it on the GPU since the only thing you can afford to send over the bus is model data (like "what is the state of the visual world" in abstract terms, things like "where is the camera", "which frame of animation is X in", "Is Y a billboard or should I render it for real") not actual "how should this thing look" data. The idea that you can change "VRAM" mid-frame is weird, you usually never have cause to do it, but you see some nutty water effects that use it because you can use "true" random values instead of the very limited "shuffle-random" available to the CPU. And you can rewrite any texture dynamically as long as the change takes less than your processor speed over the frame rate seconds so things like, whatever, bullet holes or blood decals or what have you aren't actually "decals" at all, they're dynamically calculated in each instance and effectively free instead of a deformed sticker you apply to other textures at some cost to render speed. -

You know I always see this attributed to Socrates but it seems like one of the more obvious "embellishments" by Plato. Socrates was a jobless bum who spent his days harassing the citizens of athens, I doubt that nigga was in any kind of shape. Plato on the other hand was a soldier and a narcissist.

It's actually amazingly easy relative to how difficult it seems like it would be. You type the phoneticism so you only need a rough idea of what the correct kanji is to do it. -

People who like nintendo games? I bet you have exactly one console from either MS or Sony. When you have a PC playing games on consoles looks a lot different. You buy a console either for exclusive titles or because it offers some kind of different experience from PC gaming (e.g. non-networked multiplayer, novel peripherals). On both counts Nintendo absolutely destroys the competition, they have a ton of franchises I love that get a release on almost every platform and they're always trying new weird shit MS/Sony wouldn't dare. And I mean I'm the first to admit I think a lot of wii/wii U stuff, and to a lesser degree switch, is gimmicky but I mean at least they're trying something new instead of releasing the same console with upgraded hardware specs every couple of years. And Nintendo's stuff, both platforms and games, are technically waaaay more interesting. Reverse engineering studies of GameCube games and just the GC design is like reading a science fiction novel, people did fucking insane graphics wizardry to get that kind of performance out of a .5GHz processor and that GPU, some of it is nothing short of art. -

2018-03-09 at 10:08 PM UTC in Hey guys, multi-millionaire here! Man I'm so fucking rich.Listen, just because I stay in a $35 shithole motel and eat fastfood every day doesn't mean I'm not a millionaire. That's called being smart with money.
It's exactly because I live in a way that's totally materially indistinguishable from lower-middle class that I'm a millionaire. If anything my seeming poverty is incontrovertible proof of my immense wealth. -

Originally posted by infinityshock don't be a fucking retard…you get the point I was trying to make.
I do. You were likening the assignment of moral rights to animals with mental illness because, in your incorrect understanding, both involve ascribing human qualities to inanimate objects. But animals are not inanimate objects (the word animate and animal share a latin root, btw) nor is moral agency an exclusively human quality, or at least not incontrovertible so.
Or maybe you're talking about the meta-point of how you've given up on having an actual discussion and have regressed to name calling. I got that point too, but thought I was being polite in not brining it up.
