2018-03-02 at 4:34 AM UTC in For realz, I've been legitimately sold on sex dolls.
Originally posted by HTS As for the emotional needs thing, she's right. Some dudes really enjoy the companionship aspect, to the point that those "fucking whores" you revile so much can charge extra for that experience.
There's more to prostitution than a warm body with a warm hole. No guy will ever get the feeling of conquest he gets from making a woman moan/orgasm from a sex doll. No man will ever feel desired with a sex doll. Them's just facts.
Sex dolls are great if you only care about the aesthetic and the physical. Which, I mean, I can understand… but let's be real… that's not all guys are looking for, Enter. Some of them, sure, but there's just… more to sex work than the sex.
Uhh, I don't think most guys going to prostitutes are reallying feeling desired or like they've managed conquest of anything. Like you could probably find dudes that feel like that but I don't think you have to very critical at all to realize that paying for sex disqualifies you from conquering anything. -
2018-03-02 at 7:21 AM UTC in The Retardest Thread: Fashionably Late Edition.Isn't that insane? You can find a wife or husband on the internet? Like it's just a mouse and a keyboard but you can effect significant change on the state of the world that way.
Our ancestors had to know how to hunt and flee and forage and make a bunch of tools and care of children and plan for their survival. But we know the secret spells. The arcane patterns of clicking and everything that was possible for earlier man, and so much more, is possible for us.
I can turn my lights on and off with my keyboard.
How fucking cool is that? -

Originally posted by Sophie Animals are property, therefore the owners of this property can do whatever they want with it, even sell this property as meat. When i buy a fat juicy stake it becomes my property and i can do what i want with it. And i'm gonna' grill it.
So you would agree with the statement "there is no moral issue with adopting a large number of dogs and cats in order to torture them"? I'm not saying you have to say no, I just want to make sure you're comfortable with this pretty natural conclusion of capacity for reason implies agency implies rights framework.
Originally posted by Issue313 What pisses me off about this thread is how people like Zanick always tell their friends and those who obey the rules and try to be good people about what additional obligations they have.
That's toxic.
You never see him lecturing Africans, Asians or Muslims about how to live. Just people he knows and who he thinks he can guilt into following his retarded agenda.
Knowing him is a liability. That's the essence of libshittery right there.
How is that "people like Zanick"? How would you know anything about how Zanick interacts with his friends? What do you know about the demography of the subjects of his critique?
He came onto a site with an ethical opinion that was obviously going to be unpopular and tried defend it to a (as you can plainly see) hostile audience. This seems like a pretty different thing from trying to guilt his friends into anything. People who need an echo chamber to to express their "white pride" or hate for women are the real fucking cancer. -

Wow you have such a terrible personality you have to try to buddy up to the most reviled person around to feel better about yourself. It must suck to be you. -

Over the years I've become increasingly skeptical of this kind of stuff. I mean "motivational speaking" kinda stuff has always seemed cult-y but I used to really buy into the idea that the active life was the good life. Taking on numerous challenging projects and white-knuckleing them until they're done.
But I don't know, I think you can get into the place of just trying to fill some kind of perceived absence in your life with these things, not just like mindless consumerism or entertainment, but even intellectually and aesthetically rich activity. Like people block off time on their weekends so they can really hunker down and finish that book they're working on or whatever. You see it with people learning programming a lot too, who force themselves to work on things they don't like because they want tjomg thing at the other end of working on them (although increasingly there's an economic motive as well so that's a different game).
And like sure, a lot of people have success in doing things this way. And especially when people have some kind of impressive result at the end it can feel satisfying. But usually it's temporary, often you see people who get motivated to do something, they do it, and then they need more new projects fo fill their time when they're done. Is any of it really necessary though? I don't know, I'm hardly the definitive source of truth on human happiness or achievement but lately I've been trying to do less "striving" for things. On my own time I'm trying to just do what I want to instead of setting goals, if I want to read a book I'll do that and if I want to get high and watch TV for 10 hours then that's fine. And kinda surprisingly (to me) it hasn't devolved into total hedonism yet, I probably don't "get stuff done" as much but on the other hand it's like like a constant internal struggle to stay on-task.

You're on your way to being a computer scientist yourself so you'll learn about the state of AI research in a few years. I think this is just edge posting, but if you're interested in some reading and my (fairly orthodox/heterodox) opinion on the history of AI research and the current state of affairs that could be some fun methposting. -

2018-02-26 at 8:35 AM UTC in Unattractive women and obscure left wing political ideologies
Originally posted by Sophie It's pretty crazy. Also, it's crazy to me as well how the left is over-represented in tech. And i don't mean just the weird feminazi veganarchist types either. I keep my mouth shut on Twitter about it, and do not even dare to criticize because it will upset people, and probably get me banned. But i sneak in a follow to right-wing commentators, voluntarists, and ancap(master race) accounts anyway.
I'm not sure I'm convinced that the left, at least that kind of left, really is over-represented, I tend to think there's a degree of (and I hate to use the term since it's so loaded these days) "silencing" and silent majoritarianism going on. If you talk to professional technologists, at least here in the bay area, articulated ancap politics aren't particularly strange and the most pervasive opinion seems to be a kind of half formulated "less taxes and freer market while retaining social services and consumer protection" sentiment. I think a lot of people keep quiet about it because it's become apparent having the wrong opinions can lose you your job. I feel bad sometimes, I've had coworkers sheepishly admit they voted for trump, oppose gay marriage, or are christians to me as if they half expect I'm going to disown them or report them to the gestapo or something. People have been conditioned to think that because I'm on the left I have nothing but disgust for people with different opinions.
It's really a toxic environment to have real political discussion in. I'm convinced certain very loud elements on the left have fostered an environment of persecution for political ideals that's like 80% responsible for the rise clandestine extreme right positions in this country. I mean go on /pol/ and read it. I have nothing against /pol/ existing but like half the shit people post there is stuff that no one would ever think to try to defend except in that echo chamber (and there's no lack of examples on the other end of the spectrum too). I have friends who post on /pol/ semi-seriously, it's like if you ask them seriously what they think, with the idea that they're talking to someone who doesn't necessarily agree but who isn't trying to be the thought police, they'll give fairly thoughtful fairly traditional conservative answers. But you turn them loose on an anonymous image board where they're fed an endless stream of unfortunate looking women telling them they're sexist scum for masturbating as if that's a real opinion the opposition holds then suddenly it's all "race war now!".
Bleh, whatever, even the meta commentary isn't productive even if it isn't actively harmful. -
