I guess a bow if you live somewhere rural. If you just want to fuck niggas up in the street some kind of bladed weapon would probably be a good pick but hunting game is probably a more productive strategy than duking it out in the streets.

I thought of that shitty movie tbh...

If you did psychedelics and didn't take anything away from it I don't doubt that but I disagree anyone who does otherwise should avoid them. I mean really if your level of engagement was cool visuals and stuff then it seems like you should be the one avoiding them, the un-fun-ness of a bad trip relative to the payoff of the purely somatic effects makes it a pretty bad way to spend your time IMO. I feel like any intellectually challenging or therapeutic action is intrinsically tied to the state of vulnerability most people experience, enduring change either positive or negative is predicated on your ability to be overwhelmed by the experience, to lose context and find the need to rebuild a psyche from brute facts.

Most mentally healthy people could probably take fairly large doses of psychs and remain fairly level, hold their shit together, through continuous reality testing and normal avoidance but that's not what makes it worth your time. Getting lost in it is the point, if you remain composed the whole time then maybe you're not at risk of enduring negative effects but you don't really stand to have the sorts of transcendental experiences that justify the whole endeavor to start with.

Are there any psychs that don't have the wierd super-steep tolerance buildup? It'd be cool to trip every day for a week without spending a small fortune on higher and higher doses.

Bill Krozby you fucking retard, you said Obama was going to win a third term (somehow), I offered to bet any amount of money you felt like, and you just stopped posting in the thread. I kept asking you about it for like a week and you just kept ignoring me like a pussy. You bitched out and didn't place the bet, and if you had you would have lost.

Use of global in python is a code smell, so avoid that. The latter piece of code would be considered very bad style. Generally speaking it is preferable to return a value without mutating something out in space, how important you think that is depends on ideological factors but even hardcore C people will admit if you can fit your value in a word it's better to return it as a value than mutate it as a refrence. That's kind of jargony, maybe not relevant here.

The issues here are twofold, firstly it's unintuitive, if a function generates something it should return it. Secondly there's potential for concurrency woes, if you call this function you then need to read the value back from the global `digits` before using it. Consider if you call this function, use it once, but then the scheduler starts execution on some other thread that calls this function again, then resumes execution on the first. `digits` in the first thread will evaluate to something different than it did the line before, it can change under your feet over the course of executing a function. There are some caveats in terms of what "scheduler" means in the context of python but gevent is a thing (and a very good thing at that!) and this is a real situation you need to consider.

I suppose they could be compared to weddings, in that a marriage is as simple and easy as going to the courthouse and getting married with 1 witness on a Wednesday afternoon, but yet for the majority of weddings it is obviously more of an event with crowds and parties and fanfare. I can see the argument behind finding a big fancy wedding pointless when you can o 'get it done' with far less planning and organization, and the same I guess is true for a funeral- people could just go to the funeral home and pay their last respects there, or just make a phone call or text message with a sad emoji to the family offering condolences or whatever the kids do these days.

I've only been to one wedding but I enjoyed it. It's pointless in the sense that there are other ways to achieve legal union but it's an excuse to have a big party which is fun and I think fun is intrinsically valuable. Funerals have the opposite effect though, you can dispose of corpses and mourn loved ones without a funeral and participation in them generally just exacerbates the emotional woes of participants. I don't know of anyone who's come away from a funeral and been like "well gee, I sure feel great, that gave me so much closure!". Closure, at least for me, comes from people dying, their brain function stopping, the internalization the fact that they stopped existing, not the experience of trying to hold your shit together around a bunch of people trying to do the same.

For me (and my dad is my only true example), there's just something about getting family, friends, associates, and acquaintances together to honor the deceased (though I get that the deceased can't 'care' at that point), and as Lanny mentioned, benefit to the surviving family, which I assume means showing to them that he/she was loved and appreciated enough for you to take the time to say your final goodbye.

I guess I just don't see how it's meaningless when if nothing else, your presence at a funeral is respectful to those closest to the dead person. If you yourself are close to the deceased, as I've said, it's a way to help the grieving process and sort of say a formal goodbye, if not actually speak and share some memories. It's a form of closure and acceptance.

of the funerals I've attended of my own volition it's been for that reason, "show respect to the family" I guess. Since I've been part of the family in question in each case I can't help but wonder if everyone else is there for the same reason though. I went because some members of my family would be disappointed if I didn't and every moment was like pulling teeth, I hope that this wasn't uniformly the motivation of the other attendees because it would mean we're all subjecting each other to something terrible for absolutely no benefit.

A family anecdote: there was a period of time where my dad was doing some side work for his dad. It was after I was born so it wasn't like a "work at the family business while in school" type of thing. My dad hated the work, and my grandfather wasn't really happy with the work product. They both viewed their participation as a self-sacrificial kindness to the other. It took the female arm of the family gossiping about this to bring the situation to light. It's absurd, humans putting themselves out thinking they're doing something for someone else when their efforts are really they're just a mutual burden to each other.

I can't help but think that's what funerals are like. Someone organizes them because they feel like they'd be doing a disservice to everyone else if they don't and people file in because they feel like they're obligated to the organizer. Maybe I'm just a cold person but I can't imagine anyone going through the ritual for the benefit of the deceased, it's obvious they're dead so they're not getting anything out of it, I don't think anyone gets pleasure from the experience, so why get involved at all? Just for saving face as far as I'm concerned and if that's the case for everyone involved then that's just needless human suffering on top of the background of human suffering in the wake of someone dying.

I don't know why I clicked that link but I'd just like to say no people on the earth love a self congratulatory circle jerk, nor deserve it less, than the scum that populate new york city. Hitler could set up shop in NYC, start butchering children in the street, but if he happened to buy some homeless dude a meal he'd be the fucking hero that saved the city. It's a petty slave mentality instilled by the fantastically wealthy that run our most densely populated city in order console a lower class that's being fucked into progressively more distant suburbs and slums.

Each person has on page of the retarded thread that contains all the life advice they need to turn their life around. Different people obviously have different pages, you can know your page number but you can never access it. It exists to taunt you, tease you with the possibility of a fulfilling life, but you'll never get to read it. It is only through ontological fusion with the site and final ego death that you can attain the highest truth contained on your special page of TRT

We all die a little bit everyday.
    Entropy is a bitch.

Our finite lifespans aren't really a product of entropy though

[greentext]>if you're pissed off you are morally justified to take violent action[/greentext]

    Yeah, that's not an argument.

Arguments are just a spook, and as such not recognized in fort-no-spooks. Their existence has been formally proven spooky by Spook-Logic(tm).

Yeah, but I agree with what Enter said, they're stupid and make me feel like shit, I only go because there's a social expectation to and for the benefit of the surviving family. Never had anyone I was very close with die, one guy who was sorta in my social circle in high school ended up dieing in a fire in a trap house but they didn't hold a funeral. I probably wouldn't have gone if they did.

^that, pretty much daily in a 15 minute walk to and from work. I walk by a big plaza in one of the biggest shopping districts in the city and it's not uncommon to see people chilling on the benches openly smoking a joint. I don't the the police care anymore. Stark contrast to being huddled under bridges and shit feeling like a delinquent back in uppity ass newport beach.
