Russian ships at Tartus are all out to sea for anti-missile/submarine duties. I would post satellite photos but I'm on mobile - Cassad has them

SAA sources have been told to expect an attack inside 10 hours, issued maybe 5 hours ago. Barracks are empty and ordered to maintain 5% presence.
They expect cruise missiles from the Mediterranean but believe the larger attack will come from the south, likely Jordan, using al-Tanf as a staging point.

Since before the alleged chemical attack, rumours were circling about what the SAA/Russians found in East Ghouta - there was little evidence and some of the claims were patently ridiculous so I didn't pay much attention to them. Even in this chaotic atmosphere more details are coming to light with stronger evidence and/or backing, so I thought it'd be worth writing a proper thread on the story but realised it'd likely be too late by the time I'd finished. Instead, here's a short rundown (I'm unable to verify the majority of these points, so take them as you will):
- The US, France, Israel and KSA do not simply fund terrorist groups, they have operatives embedded within them. It's not well publicised but in the past, operatives have been found and essentially ransomed back to their host countries.
- The SAA's move into East Ghouta was far more rapid than they predicted, and as a result a number of these operatives (largely US and Israeli) were trapped in a secure bunker and subsequently captured.
- These operatives were held by the SAA and interrogated by Russians who determined that they were largely chemical weapons experts who were linked to various chemical weapons attacks in the past. Through these operatives they were able to determine when and where imminent chemical attacks were planned.
- As a result of being 'decapitated', the White Helmets had to resort to faking a chemical attack rather than 'rescuing' people that they had fired chlorine-filled mortars at.
- The US could not afford to have this come out publicly and the SAA had refused to trade for these hostages as they had previously, so the US inserted a Special Forces team to try and retrieve them.
- The retrieval team was destroyed with all or most members killed, their deaths attributed to various 'accidents' such as the CH-53E crash in California.
This is, if you believe it, the real reason for the US' rageboner - not the chemical attack that they must know was faked, but the capture of very sensitive assets and the shame of their abject failure at trying to retrieve them.
There are further rumours about chemical weapons being discovered there that could be linked to the UK and the possibility of Sergei Skripal being blackmailed into funneling chemical weapons from the Ukraine into the UK and Syria, but considering the people offering this theory often use a photo of a smoke flare manufactured in England as evidence, I don't consider it to be worth pursuing at the moment.

I wonder how much of it is old cold war baby boomer hatred and how much is lefty anti Putin indoctrination.

Strikes are apparently postponed until the results of the OPCW investigation - it was Mathis, of all people who seems to have talked Trump down for the time being.

PRELIMINARY: There's a lot of conflicting information coming out, so a lot of this is subject to change.
Most targets have been in the Damascus countryside - Dumayr airbase, a university/research facility in Barzeh and the barracks for the 105th. Attacks have been reported around Homs but currently unverified.
The attacks came from the direction of the Mediterranean with both sea and air launches reported, around 120 missiles in total, unknown mix.
Russia reports that the missiles did not enter the area of fixed Russian anti-air defences (typically clustered in the W/NW regions). SAA reports they were able to shoot down 10-20 of the inbound missiles, and there are unverified reports that PANTSIR units were able to shoot down significantly more.

I suspect the attack schedule was put on fast forward when the Russian MOD published interviews with the people who produced the 'chemical attack' videos - indicating that the 'dead' were actors, that the videos of people being treated for inhalation were actually victims of smoke inhalation and that they were ordered to produce CW 'evidence' by the UK.

UPDATE: 112 missiles fired, 71 intercepted. The initial report of the SAA bringing down 12 was in the defence of the Dumayr airbase alone.
