I was in my early teens, but yes it was. HIV came to the surface, in 1985. I remember my college instructor telling us that if we ever said we wouldn’t touch an HIV patient, then we needed to get out of the field. I didn’t have contact with an HIV patient for a time, but we wore those space suits to be around HIV patients because they didn’t know enough about it’s transmission at the time. They didn’t even know about the AIDS part of it yet. Hell since then I’ve x rayed a woman with SARS, and many many more communicable diseases. Hope I never see Ebola.

Can’t say I save lives, but some of the xray films I produce can assist a doc in saving someone’s life.
