sometimes its funny to think how a bunch of terrorists with air tickets could set off a chain of events that last till these days and possibly another 50 years. -

The Russian MoD has noted that several US missile ships have been moved into range (including the USS Ross and The Sullivans), indicating that another attack to be blamed on the SAA is likely being prepared in the Idlib region. -

whats the point in that?
when i was in the military the tactic was to fly around something as a decoy then when it was lit up by a air-search or target-tracking radar someone would launch a HARM right into the emitter.
problem solved.
i dont see the difficulty in launching a few waves of dummies/decoys with intermittent HARMs thrown in to the mix.
i guarantee after that none of those radars will light up again, whether theyre hit or not. -

I think that's the point of having a tiered air-defence system, in this case the long-range S-200s and BUKs and the like act on long-range threats and they're protected by PANTSIRs and other small mobile arrays. The 'new' network backbone that they all feed tracking data into should ideally mitigate the loss of single units too.
True, the US (and Israel inevitably joining in) is potentially able to deploy enough air power to overwhelm what little defences are set up in Syria, but that's a few notches above the current state of conflict -

I'm sure. There are 4 powers in the world right now - USA, Russia, China, and Germany. The game for each great power is to keep at least 2 of the other 3 on your side.
The USA and Russia is a natural combination. For either Germany or China to align with Russia is a bad situation for the USA. The worst situation would be if Germany and China both align with Russia. It looks like this is happening.
I expect to see the end of American power in my lifetime. That only leaves soft power, such as pic related:

2018-08-30 at 11:11 AM UTCGermany is trying again (like during and before WWII) to become energy-independent - something like 40% of their energy comes from solar, wind and other non-fossil-fuel sources, but they still rely on gas for heating, and the numbers are much higher across the EU.
The EU needs Russian gas, at least in the short-mid term. The US and European Atlanticists (?) are trying to force Russia out of the market to make way for far more expensive US exports (shale extraction + transatlantic shipping is significantly more expensive than pipelines), but Germany is having none of it, evidenced by their acceleration of the NORD-STREAM pipeline.
In short, most of the EU stands little to gain from toeing the US' line, but Brussels and national governments are stacked with Atlanticists. The ideal situation (for the EU) would be for the EU, or EU states retaking sovereignty and managing their own relations with the US and Russia, but if they ever start to slip out of US control, their economy will be dismantled and the union broken up.
As it stands the powerful EU economy is being ruthlessly exploited by the US, and they'd much rather see it destroyed than lose control. -

US has made a list of targets they intend to hit.
Seems like they're going ahead in spite of the fact that anyone paying attention knows a staged provocation is likely being prepared, as well as there being a significant possibility for collateral damage to cause escalation and any sort of limited strike being insufficient to stop their pals in Idlib getting crushed.
Of course it could be a bluff and the information strategically leaked to give the impression the threats are serious, but I can't see any purpose that'd serve and with literal psychopaths like Bolton and Pompeo at the helm, sincerity seems far more likely. -
