It's not necessarily so much about my external environment and position in life but neurologically based. Asperger's has a rate of suicidal ideation worse than psychosis, the suicide rate is one of the worst of all disorders. I just can't stand the way life feels. The majority of the time I seem to be in a state of at least mild chronic suffering, experiencing drops in mood for no apparent reason. The neurological deviations likely play a major role in the chronic depression and other issues, I feel disconnected from everything, people naturally feel like enemies, there's just nothing of substance, no real lasting meaning, to be found, negative emotions can be greatly amplified, the pain from others, while blunted affect, a reduced intensity and limited range of emotions, keep me from experiencing much happiness and pleasure in life.
This is a living hell. My only goal in life is to help finally bring to an end the needless cycle of birth, suffering, and death, but I don't know if I'm strong enough to endure the suffering. What doesn't kill you may not may you stronger, it can simply wear you down and hollow you out over a lifetime. I desperately need pharmaceutical intervention, but nothing seems to be particularly effective. People who aren't autistic don't know what it's like, what a special kind of hell it is. -

I had asked if there was a difference between high functioning autism and Asperger's and she said no, that they're two different names for the same thing. I always thought they were different in some ways.

She's wrong. I've heard that a major part of the reason for lumping everything together under "Autism Spectrum Disorder" was for billing purposes.
Regardless, there are numerous distinct neurological differences that have been found (The actual paper isn't that interesting, it's just data analysis, not an overview/description of what those differences are):

It's extremely, insanely, complex. Even the majority of autism specialists don't have a proper grasp of the neurology. It would likely take over a decade of specialized study to really have a proper grasp of it, limited by the best information we have available. There is definitely something distinct about genuine Asperger's. -
